About Me

Get Your Own! | View SlideshowI'm Molly Rebecca Jones. Most people think this name suits me, yet I still seem to attract a startling number of (slightly strange) nicknames~ I work as a regional scout for Island Records and I write for NME and The Fly~ I also work at a cafe in town, where I spend my days wearing a 50's apron, making smoothies and trying not to eat the lovely cakes ~ I REALLY love my friends. They are all extra 'special', and they are also all mega fit and wear lovely clothes and are brilliant. But I wish they would stop getting new jobs/ getting the travelling bug/ going off to uni cos I miss them~ I also love a boy called Mike, who's not from New York City, he's from Rotherham. We spend our time trying to bring back words that don't get used enough nowadays, like 'malarkey' and 'chuffin'' and laughing at the same weird things that noone else understands. He takes his tea FAR too strong. I wish he liked football less and lived in Manchester but I'm willing to forgive him cos he's lovely~ I used to work at the legendary 42s. I sometimes miss working there cos it was much fun and the birthplace of The Birds. I do not miss coming home smelling of Red Bull. I also used to work in a record shop called Carbon. I miss that too cos I liked bossing Boyd around~ I think (nay, I KNOW) Manchester is awesome, but I would like to live in Paris one day~ I have a slightly strange obsession with Jay-Z~ I have a less strange, totally justified obsession with Prince~ I think Myspace is amazing, and I'm totally addicted. It is especially good for spying on your friends/ enemies/ people you've never met who seem to lead an infinately cooler life than you~ My current ambition is to have one of my reviews quoted on an album sticker~ I don't like talking on the phone, so don't call me~ I never use one word when twenty will do. I also like random word play things (like 'Champagne for my real friends, real pain for my sham friends'- that' is WELL clever...)~ TO BANDS/ MUSICIANS: Please don't be offended if I don't respond to your friends requests or messages immediately, or at all. I get shit loads of friends requests from bands, and sometimes I just don't have the time and/ or energy to trawl through the pages of people I haven't heard of. Also, if you're not from the North West, and/ or are not playing up this way any time soon, there's not a lot of point contacting me. Don't take it personally, though- I'm sure you're really good. Probably.

I'd like to meet:

People who like the same things as me, people who don't like the same things as me (so I can argue with them and inevitably make them change my mind), other aspiring journalists, fellow music loving Manchester-ites, 42-ers, people who know nothing of the crunch and any famous people (because famous people are better than us).

Music:

Jeff Buckley completes me. I like other good music, too. The basics are: The Libertines, We Are Scientists, The Rakes, New Order, Maximo Park, N*E*R*D, Liam Frost, Bille Holiday, Stars, Jamie T, The Strokes, Arcade Fire, Bloc Party, The Beatles, Pulp, Razorlight, Damien Rice, Jay-Z, Ryan Adams, The Clash, The Prodigy, Fall Out Boy, Alicia Keys, Kings Of Leon, Art Brut, Elbow, Pixies, Interpol, pretty much anything The Neptunes or Timberland are involved with (despite his annoying habit of 'yeah'-ing all over every record he produces), Chemical Brothers, Scott Matthews, The Smiths, Justin Timberlake, Kate Nash, Rival Schools, Bob Dylan, The Killers, CSS, 2 Many DJs, The Walkmen, Basement Jaxx, Data Rock, The Cooper Temple Clause, Morrissey, Aaliyah, Klaxons, Gomez, Primal Scream, Marvin Gaye, Bright Eyes, The Knife, The Cribs, Amy Winehouse, Howling Bells, Take That, Arctic Monkeys, Bell X1, The Whip, Josh Rouse, The Sunshine Underground, The Departure, M.I.A, Aretha Franklin, LCD Soundsystem, Archie Bronson Outfit, The Long Blondes, Beyonce, Nick Drake, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Duke Spirit, Elliot Smith, The Presets, Snow Patrol, The Young Knives, Otis Redding, Doves, The Beach Boys, Kanye West, The Shins, The Cure, Ray Lamontagne, Franz Ferdinand, The Charlatans, Brendan Benson, The Rapture, Madonna, Weezer, The Jam, Eugene McGuinness, Cut Copy, Joni Mitchell, Girls Aloud, Outkast, Panic! At The Disco, The Futureheads, The Stills, The Little Ones, Nelly Furtado, Idlewild, Dirty Pretty Things, Kelis, New Young Pony Club, Edith Piaf, Editors, Pete Yorn, Prince, Guillemots... And Shed Seven. Of course.

Movies:

Any and all Brat pack movies (especially The Breakfast Club and Pretty In Pink), Napoleon Dynamite, Donnie Darko, Lost In Translation, Labyrinth, Amelie, Little Miss Sunshine, Romeo and Juliet, ET, Breakfast At Tiffany's, Almost Famous, Heathers, High Fidelity, The Big Lebowski, Vanilla Sky, 24 Hour Party People, Garden State, Empire Records.

Television:

I'll watch any old crap if I'm tired enough, but I DO like The Mighty Boosh, Scrubs, Family Guy, Peep Show, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Harry Hill's TV Burps, Skins, ER, Ugly Betty, Popworld and The Simpsons rather a lot. I miss Adam & Joe, Sex & The City, Friends (mainly cos I've now seen every episode at least three times...)and Reeves & Mortimer. And I like programmes with retro value that remind me of being littler: Pugwall's Summer, Saved By The Bell, Round The Twist, Heartbreak High, Byker Grove, Blossom, Sharky and George- all classics.

Books:

The Catcher In The Rye by J.D. Salinger, Little Women by Louisa M. Alcott, A Heartbreaking Work Of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers, I'm With The Band by Pamela Des Barres, Cider With Roadies by Stuart Maconie, The Dirt by Motley Crue, The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides, Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen, I Capture The Castle by Dodie Smith, A Million Little Pieces by James Frey

Heroes:

All these people (and definately NOT Boyd):

Ducky, 'Pretty In Pink' and why it's all SO WRONG

Having just watched Pretty In Pink for about the 20th time, I feel compelled to admit that this movie is clearly not as great as I once thought. There are lots of good things about it, yes. Molly...

Thing I learnt on my holiday in Venice

- Restaurants called 'Crazy Pizzeria' may not, in fact, be crazy at all - American tourists are the worst - I might well have a strange, new fangled phobia that's a combination of vertigo and agrophob...

So 10 months and 4 interviews later, I finally found out today that I didn't get the job at Warner. Although, apparently, I only very narrowly missed out and anything 'suitable' that comes u...
