About Me

My infatuation with all things Spanish and Japanese began at the same time. A Flamenco dancer lived upstairs from us, she gave me this dress. And then there was John-John.....the little Japanese boy next door. :-)

(Guess it's a good thing there wasn't a construction worker or a stripper next door, huh?)

I studied both Folklorico and Flamenco off and on from the ages of 5 to 29. Mostly Folklorico, although it's easy to see where my heart lies. :-) Once babies came along I had my hands full, it was just to difficult, and I had to quit class.

I am and shall always remain a Flamenco afficionado, and am thrilled to have finally found "My People" here on My Space. :-D

My Interests

THINGS I LIKE:
------------------

Music, movies, reading, writing, internet, the BEACH!!, rain, cold weather, building websites, geography, anything PINK, collecting dolls, photography, Disneyland, sewing, dancing, laughing :-D, Flamenco, anything Spanish or Asian, (esp. Japanese), anything silly, seafood, poker, pool, ping-pong, penpals, animals (esp. cats), flowers, Diet Pepsi, and coffee! I'm not complicated, the simple stuff is always nicer. :-)

THINGS I DON'T CARE FOR:
---------------

Spicey food, screaming children, cigarette smoke, war, horror movies, hip-hop/rap, metal, jazz, banda, reggeton (blech!), cheesy spanish movies/TV, anything country/western, women who refer to themselves or their friends as "bitches", getting up early, and of course..... eraser & toast crumbs. ;-p

I'd like to meet:

I love meeting new people!! Feel free to send me a message. :-)

I especially enjoy learning about cultures and customs different from my own, I am Mexican-American.

Music:

A little bit of everything, Flamenco, Motown, Salsa, Merengue, Classical, Pop, Oldies, Classic 70's, 80's, Cumbias, Rancheras, Mariachi, J-Pop, Disco, more.....

Some favs are: Gloria Estefan, Alabina, Steve Tyrell, Tito Rojas, and Paco de Lucia. Also...the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Journey, ...get the idea?
There is no such thing as "old school" cause I never stopped listening to it! :-)

Movies:

Foreign and Indie films, WAY to many to list all!!

Some favorites are: "French Twist", "Young Frankenstien", "Children of Heaven", "My Family/Mi Familia", "A Fish Called Wanda", "Four Weddings & A Funeral", "Amelie", "West Side Story", "All About My Mother", "Love Me if You Dare", "Three Iron"....more...

I bought "Desperado" just so I can watch 30 seconds worth of Antonio Banderas walking across that bar....over and over again!! :-D

Also love comedies, documentries, and cartoons. Yes, cartoons. Me and Bugs are like THIS. :-D Love "Looney Tunes", "The Muppets", Disney films, Absolutely Fabulous, and Mr Bean.

Television:

I'm a news junkie, I have to watch news and Oprah daily or I go into withdrawl. I don't care for any particular genre, I just like what I like!Gray's Anatomy, George Lopez, Dancing w/ the Stars, 20/20, PrimeTime, LOST, Wife Swap, Super Nanny, nothing very high brow....and who knows what new shows September will bring! :-D

Books:

I'll read anything & everything I can get my hands on when time permits - I am currently reading "Playing with the Boys" by Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez.

Against my better judgement this summer I read "The Da Vinci Code". (I was forced to read it before watching the movie. ;-p

Sadly I found it to be a carbon copy of "Angels & Demons" by the same author, Dan Brown. The latter didn't exactly thrill me, I found it to be more of a thinly veiled screenplay than a novel. Gorey, improbable, long winded, and at times laughable - not my style. I would NOT recommend either one.

An old fav is, "A Fine Balance" by Rohinton Mistry - a bit confusing at first, but give it at least 3-4 chapters before you put it down. Well worth the effort!
