About Me

REPRESENTING REAL HIP-HOP MUSIC......Self-Assured, yet unasumming, SCEF, Newton's favorite son steps unto the music landscape fusing classic hip-hop sounds with poignant spoken word. Born Charles Forward, the sleepy eyed artist attributes his success to the wisdom imparted to him by his mother, and his mother's mother, both of whom he pays tribute to in his debut project "Hip-Hop Is Poetry" released in August of 2004. Since his youth SCEF has performed in talent showcases demonstrating his knack for using his southern accent and humble roots to exemplify how the very simple can give insight into the very profound. In 1993, SCEF's desire to pursue his music career brought him from Newton, TX to Houston. An attitude of self sufficiency led him to become known as one of the most prominent promoters of spoken word venues in the Houston area. In 2002, SCEF founded HoustonPoets.Com as a vehicle to unite the sometimes fragmented spoken word scene. Though he had made many strides as a spoken word artist, SCEF never left his hip-hop roots. His lyrical prowess as both a rapper and a poet is showcased in his 2004 debut release which is widely accepted by fans of hip-hop and poetry.Fact SheetArtist Name: SCEFMusical Styles: Hip-Hop, Spoken WordCity of Origin: Newton, TXCurrent Activities: Performing weekly at Houston venues.
