That dark center of your soul which it frightens you to consider: that is where I live and thrive. I am not a being, for “being” suggests existence. The very word “existence” relies on the ability to be touched, and I cannot be touched, though I can certainly touch you. To say that I do not exist is not precisely accurate either. You will note that I have consciousness, for instance, and am capable of thought. It is something you may never be able to grasp, for all things you know through language, and there is no language on earth that can define me. I am the abyss Nietzsche witnessed, and subsequently jumped into. I am that little something you can’t define or even understand, but which leads you to the undeniable conviction that there is more to this reality than meets the eye. I am not God, but I am your belief in God, and your insurmountable desire to find a reason for your existence. I am that knowledge you have that a greater truth exists, and your unwavering need to find it. I am your dark night of the soul, your lowest moment, deepest longing, your philosophical anguish, emotional ennui, your premonition, your sense of loss and permanence. I am your rapture. I am the consequence of and punishment for your procurement of rational thought.
