Monday Jam

London's 'only' blues club's weekly Monday jam

About Me

This is a page dedicated to the Monday blues jam at Ain't Nothin But the Blues Bar, 20 Kingly St, London. It is run by me, Sam Hare from 9.30 until 1am every Monday night. I took over from Ian Siegal at the beginning of last year. The reason for setting up the page is not so much for promotion, as the jam is always busy. But we intend to post regular tracks from the sessions, as most weeks are recorded by Ed Green. It's also a springboard for people to rant and rave about all things jam related.
The Monday Jam is consistently of high quality, and you never know who might turn up - since I've been running it, Buddy Whittington (John Mayall's guitar player), Matt Schofield, Ian Siegal, Lee Sankey, Amy Winehouse (although she left before I called her up!) and even Hollywood actor Bruce Greenwood are some of the folks that have rocked up unexpectedly for a jam. This page will also be useful for me to be able to give you the heads up when I know or suspect such a thing may happen.
If you haven't been before, come down and check it out. Drummers need sticks, bass players need a bass, harmonica players need to know what harp they need for what key the song is in (believe me, some really don't!) and guitar players need a guitar, with a strap, and that is in tune. And the less leads and pedals, the better. We provide the house Fender Pro Junior with a Holy Grail reverb, plus either my Ampeg 1 x 12 Jet combo, or a Fender 65 Reissue Deluxe Reverb. Everything else goes straight into the PA, and that can include a bullet mic for harps if you want. There is also more often than not an organ there provided by Joe Glossop, with great Hammond & Rhodes sounds. Buy Joe a drink, ask him nicely and he'll let you have a play on it!
Anyone who has been there knows it gets busy, and a queue forms outside. There is nothing I can do about this - all I will say is that if you get there by about 9 o'clock, there probably won't be a queue yet, and if there is it'll be a short one, and if you put your name on my list at that time, you will definitely get a play. People who rock up at midnight tend not to get up, unless they play a very unusual instrument that we are desperately in need of!
Anyway, soon a blog will appear, so you can all start chatting and this thing can take care of itself. Feel free to send in any good pics or video clips to us. See you down there.

Albert King would be proud

Good jam this week, if a little busy. Although I guess that's our fault for putting this page up. Good to see old friends like Lee Sankey & Eddie Angel, and I particularly enjoyed Eddie's & Ro...

Hi all. Just to say that because Ed couldn’t make the jam this week, it wasn’t recorded. So you can stop waiting for the new media box to appear! See you next week,Sam....
