Music has always been a personal interest as I grew older and older. I grew up listening to Beatles and Coolio cassette tapes inside my mom's car when I was a child, and as the years came, I started to listen to a little more. My 8th and 9th grade, I was listening to mostly punk/hard rock music until I found bands like Radiohead and Sigur Ros which just made me realize that these are the sort of bands that truly matter. Through the years, many genre's of music just came naturally, jazz, hip-hop, ambient, electronic, folk, indie, etc. I think anyone can find any sort of connection in most genres of music. I never knew the word "ambient," but I loved hearing sounds that sort of reminded me of breathing. Soon or later, I was properly introduced to ambient music, and sparked a genre of music I thought didn't exist. Ambient music is much more than sounds. For me, some ambient groups (Stars of the Lid, Eluvium, etc.) make music that just strikes an emotional chord that attracts me every time I hear it, and sometimes it is just unexplainable how it happens. It's not for everyone, but I'm glad that it was for me. I like a broad variety of music, but not everything, which some people claim that they like everything to seem like they know what they are talking about when it comes to music, but they really don't.When I was in the 7th grade, I told my parents(who were very excited) that I wanted to play the piano, and I got a piano and lessons immediately. When 8th grade came around, I wanted to drop piano lessons, and play guitar instead; however, my mom didn't let me drop piano, and I am very very very thankful that she didn't let me quit. I still played the guitar, but focused more on the piano. I stopped taking piano lessons after awhile (since my teacher moved away, and I wanted to work on things on my own), but I want to start back up soon. Even though I want to make all sorts of ambient/electronic/post and shoegaze music, I think I am going to take Jazz piano lessons. I think that would help a lot.
