The film, "Why We Bang," produced and directed by Orlando Myrics and Clifford Jordan for Ghetto Logik Entertainment is an independent film that documents the historical background of LA's Bloods and Crips gangs, then transitions into several interviews of current and former members of the Bloods and Crips of Los Angeles.
Ghetto Logik, a Film Company based in South Los Angeles offers their first urban documentary as a result of being disappointed in seeing outsiders far too often portray the stories of ghetto residents. "We just got tired of seeing people, not from our community making so called "Hood movies" that did not really depict what our community was all about, our goal is to bring real images and real stories about real people to the big screen."
Their first effort, "Why We Bang" is an in-depth look into Gang Culture in Los Angeles that shows up-close, the life in South Los Angeles, talking and walking with real gang members first hand. Their approach was to show the gangs, their motivations and deadliness and to capture the voices of the mothers who have lost children to the violence that gangs bring. Their story, through several narratives will inform you Why We Bang.
I'd like to meet:
Born May 17 1985, Junius "Da Dutch" was introduced to the struggle. One of five kids raised by a single mother due to his biological father hooked on drugs, "Music and the streets was my father until Will came into my life". At the age of eight, a well known member of organized crime by the name of "Big Will" was introduced to his mother and took the father role for the young Junius. At age nine Junius got physically involved with music writing songs for himself and other kids in the neighborhood. In 1996 Junius played a student in the studio of Death Row Records. Watching the way Death Row Artist created music and took over that year, Junius knew this is what he wanted to do. Besides, what can be a better motivation then the late Tupac Shakur? Junius would go on to learn the ropes and record music in a studio called Roc Noisy entertainment, through the years of 1999-2001. Junius dream would take a major turn after the death of his father "Big Will" in 2001. While continuing with music, he would do quite a few opening acts for local Chicago artist. Junius ran into another set back after being found guilty of attempted murder and sentenced to four years in the state penitentiary. There he will not write nor practice his gift, but focus on rebuilding his self mentally and correcting his past mistakes. After being released he would unite with his group called YT, bringing a street buzz with multiple mixtapes. While things seem to blow, Junius found himself in a familiar position. He was shot a total of four times on two separate occasions between the years of 2005 & 2007. He would once again survive another chapter of his life. In 2007, the father of three will take his older brothers' (TRILL) advice and form his own label 225 records. While labels are contacting Junius, he still remains independent ready to launch his solo project titled "Till Death Do Us Part", coming in 2009. With his intense flow, catchy punch lines, and ability to create solid hooks. It is expected to be a solid project leaving Junius to say; "You can't get life with out struggle, so it is what it is ABK!!!! Junius 1 Luv
