New on the scene but definitely not new to the game, Southwest rapper Benito P is making moves an setting trends in gospel Hip Hop. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" replies Benito.Given opportunities to open for big names in the secular market such as Baby Bash, Natalie and Lil Flip, Benito loves to do shows but loves to share Christ through his music even more.Benito has opened for the hard hittin' heavyweight and Gospel rap veteran T-Bone. "T-Bone has been an inspiration to me for years. I recently had the opportunity to be mentored by him and the wisdom he dropped on me not only through his music but also through conversation was an awesome blessing." says the excited and spontaneous rapper.Benito was formally part of a group called GHP, which stands for God Hop Productions. While in GHP Benito had two songs hit the top ten most requested on altared lives radio. The two songs "Silly Devil" and "Bounce, Rock, Roll, Skate" remained on the top ten most requested for approximately four to five weeks. "It's so cool to see God using little guys like me to minister to a nationwide audience through an internet radio station" replies Benito.Benito was born and raised in the small town of Green Valley, AZ and says "It's like I'm living a dream because I never would have imagined that this would be God's calling upon my life." Singing in church and performing was normal for Benito in his younger years, but as he grew older his passion turned to fast cars and a fast worldly lifestyle. After spending years struggling and living for himself his life came to a dead end. That's when Benito had to reevaluate the important things in life. Benito realized that it wasn't girls, cars or money that he needed but instead it was simply Jesus. After seeking God's plans for his life through prayer Benito made the life changing commitment to live for Christ and to use his gift of music to share the gospel worldwide.God has not only allowed Benito to take the gospel from state to state but He has allowed him to take it across the globe and share it in Ireland. "Young people in Ireland not only need the Lord but they have that open desire to see what God is all about. They are just like us, they need someone to listen and to comfort them." Benito continues "I was there for two weeks and everyday we would find a new park, neighborhood or street corner to share from. Many young people and adults received Christ as their Savior, but we've only begun to do what will be something huge, Lord willing" says Benito.Mostly compared to platinum recording artist Eminem because of his skin color and his ability to drop lyrical bombs. "Some people say I look Mexican or that's the whitest Mexican I've ever seen. Well here's a shocker, I'm not Mexican" Benito says with a chuckle. "I'm actually Spanish, Indian and White but my style is deffinatley Latin. Although I throw a lot of Spanish into my lyrics I can't speak it fluently. Spanish for me is kind of like my spiritual walk, I grow and learn more everyday." says Benito. After talking with Benito you will know right away where his heart really lies, and that's in the will of God. Benito's desire is to preach the gospel through hip hop or better defined as God Hop to all generations and to take music back to it's original purpose which was to glorify the name of the Lord.
