Daveed

Hey Everybody

About Me

After spending his teen years playing bass and guitar in various bands from the small rock n’ roll town of La Crosse, WI, Daveed found himself at a large University in a big strange city called Minneapolis, with no band and no musical outlet except strumming his guitar in his dorm room.He paid no mind to dance music, mostly frequenting rock shows until he was exposed to great Chicago House DJ’s like Derrick Carter, Green Velvet, Paul Johnson, and Justin Long during the Apex rave days of the late nineties. Then followed a trip with his best college friend Ian to the now gone Let it Be Records, where Daveed picked up a few records in the used bin and started mixing them on Ian’s Gemini turntables. He was forever hooked on that joyous feeling he got the first time he matched a beat. Skipping class and buying records soon became a bigger priority than College, even though he somehow managed to graduate with a degree in Journalism. After years of deejaying house parties and Minneapolis clubs like the Gay 90’s, First Avenue VIP lounge, and the Quest with the aid of like minded (and more organized) friends from the Teopelli Crew, Daveed knew it was time to start making his own tunes.Daveed takes a multi-faceted approach to producing, using a combination of analog, digital synthesizers, live instruments, and of course software sampling and sequencing. He’s no purist for analog or digital musicmaking and feels there’s much benefit in using both. The goal is to create something unique and original, yet stay rooted in the foundation of House Music that was built before him. Taking inspiration and inluence from music ranging from Punk, Jazz, Soul, Funk, Hip Hop, Afrobeat and everyhing in between, he intends on widening the spectrum and bringing more love and funkiness to the world of House. In a time of confusion and uncertainty, Daveed sees music as a weapon to destroy the apathy caused by a wicked post millenial hangover and the hopelessness of the Bush decade. And it’s fun to dance to.This is just the beginning. Stay Tuned. Also check out Sexbotz, the electro duo he’s in with Ian Traas, and Plastic Chord, the rock band he plays bass for. That shit is sweet.
