About Me

Born in the South Wales Valleys and living in Cardiff. City of culture and whatnot. Working in the wonderful world of retail for a year now I've completed my Masters.
Starting a History/American Studies PhD at either The George Washington University in DC or University of Kent at Canterbury this September (yeah, a bit of a distance between the two). Hopefully going to be an American History lecturer in a few years time. My focus is the development of American national identity and I have a soft spot for the evolution and use of the image of Uncle Sam (if the background didn't give it away - a rather odd choice for a Brit, you've no doubt noticed)
So yeah, I'm a little bit geeky despite being one of those long-haired metal types. Just so's you know. So yeah... that's me

Right Handed or Left Handed: Righthanded
Your Heritage: Father is Welsh, mother is English
The Shoes You Wore Today: Scruffy, falling-apart but comfy suit shoes. Don't own any trainers.
Your Weakness: Just your typical weaknesses of the flesh, I'm afraid. Nothing thrilling
Your Fears: Dogs. Big, barky dogs.
Your Perfect Pizza: Chicken tikka, mushrooms, sweetcorn, jalapeños... anything to give it a kick
Goal You Would Like To Achieve This Year: Get started on my PhD in September, get fitter
Your Most Overused Phrase On an instant messenger: "okee"
Thoughts First Waking Up: "Christ, is it that time already?"
Your Best Physical Feature: *looks down* No, seriously. It's rather impressive. I have references
Your Bedtime: Between midnight and 2am normally
Your Most Missed Memory: I guess they would involve my father. It's been two years since he died and I wish I remember more of the little things from growing up
Pepsi or Coke: (Diet) Coke
MacDonalds or Burger King: Burger King - much nicer fries
Single or Group Dates: Single. Group ones are just the epitome of awkward
Lipton Ice Tea or Nestea: Nestea - they do a fantastic rasberry iced tea. But I'm British. I'd rather a good cup of keemun, oolong or lapsang souchong. Proper tea!
Chocolate or Vanilla: Chocolate
Cappuccino or Coffee: um... espresso machiatto?
Do you Smoke: Used to. Only about about four or five moments of weakness in the last three years
Do you Swear: Like a trooper
Do you Sing: When no one's around or I'm really drunk
Do you Shower Daily: I try to. Every other day if all else fails
Have you Been in Love: I like to think I am right now

Do you belive in yourself: On certain issues. In my academic abilities? More or less. Socially? Christ, no
Do you get Motion Sickness: Sometimes on a ship, but not much
Do you think you are Attractive: Meh. I may be slightly above average. Or average. Or slightly below average. So basically somewhere in the middle
Are you a Health Freak: Hell no! Although I have recently started working out better
Do you get along with your Parents: Yeah. My mother gets frustrated with me at times but we get along. I wish my father was still alive for me to get along with. I think we'd be even closer now that I've matured a little
Do you like Thunderstorms: Love them. There's something strangely sensual (or is it sensuous... I can never remember) about them
Do you play an Instrument: Nah. Which is odd since I live with two fifths of an up-and-coming metal band - http://www.myspace.com/huntedrock
In the past month have you Drank Alcohol: Actually, I have just come off the enforced "Drink Ban Jan" and got very, very drunk on Saturday
In the past month have you Smoked:
In the past month have you been on Drugs: Nope. Haven't done them in nearly a year
In the past month have you gone on a Date: I guess. My girlfriend was here three weeks ago. But mainly we just hang around barely clothed in my room. It happens when you are 5000 miles apart for most of the year
In the past month have you gone to a Mall: Don't have them here in Britain. Been into the St David Centre in Cardiff though. It resembles a mall. Kinda.
In the past month have you eaten a box of Oreos: Another thing we are sorely lacking in Britain. Mmm... doublestuff!
In the past month have you eaten Sushi: Not really a fan of sea food that hasn't been cooked or deep fried (mmmm... fried calamari). But no. No sushi
In the past month have you been on Stage: Ha! Hell no.
In the past month have you been Dumped: Nope. Three years, four months, three weeks and counting (kinda. sort of)
In the past month have you gone Skinny Dipping: In Wales? In the middle of January? Bloody hell, no
In the past month have you Stolen Anything: Not that I'm aware of
Ever been Drunk: So, so, so many times
Ever been called a Tease: Once or twice. I guess I'm good at what I do. (oooh! Ego alert! Spray him down, cap'n!)
Ever been Beaten up: Not in about thirteen years
Ever Shoplifted: Don't think so. Unless it's a really repressed memory
How do you want to Die: Aged 117 having witness with US tricentennial and my third century. And peacefully in my sleep. And if that fails, explosively
What do you want to be when you Grow Up: University lecturer (in US History) and general academic extraordinaire
What country would you most like to Visit: Australia. Nothing particularly exotic but it just seems like such a friendly place (ignoring the casual racism regarding aboriginees, anyway)
In a Boy/Girl..
Favourite Eye Color: Green
Favourite Hair Color: Not blonde.
Short or Long Hair: Depends on the person. Generally somewhere in the middle
Height: Shorter than me
Weight: Whatever. I'm attracted to different types
Best Clothing Style: What I wear? Plain and simple. A lot of black (or ease rather than any attempt at gothitude) but I'm finally branching out. On women? Either t-shirt and jeans or classy, like ankle length skirts and whatnot. A huge difference there, I know
Number of Drugs I have taken: Just weed. Smoked a joint I later found out was laced with coke but it didn't feel any different to me so I don't think I'll count it
Number of CDs I own: Not as many as albums I have on my mp3 player, put it that way
Number of Piercings: None
Number of Tattoos: Just one: a barcode just below my neck
Number of things in my Past I Regret: Not doing GCSE and A-Level History and generally knowing more about European history to back up my knowledge of its American counterpart
CREATE YOUR OWN! - or - GET PAID TO TAKE SURVEYS! What Kind of Metalhead Are You?
You are a True Metalhead. You dig the classic music and the classic lifestyle. As metalheads go, you're pretty open-minded in terms of music and lyrics; if it rocks, then you'll listen to it. Concerts are the pinnacle of the metal experience, though sometimes they get a little too crazy. You generally respect everybody else, but as far as you're concerned, they all wish they were Priest or Maiden.

My Interests

Reading and academic stuff - my current love is early US history and the development of the American nation character;

I'm generally a follower of most things within American culture and politics (while I may disagree with everything coming out of Washington these days, the fact remains I'm still interested in the whole process);

Geeky stuff like RPGs - I was running a Buffy/Angel one when I was still in Swansea and I desperately need to find fellow roleplayers in Cardiff;

My girlfriend. Yeah, definately my girlfriend. She puts up with so much shit what with the long distance thing. I love her to bits

Entry 3

So yeah, so much for the Halloween in which I was supposed to be dressed as Jesus. I'm sure from looking at the photo here that you can see why. Last year I did "Jack the Stripper" and before that 007...

Entry 2

Yes, despite my criticism yesterday I'm posting here again. I'll be honest, it's purely because of the music thing at the bottom there. That is fairly cool. I'd imagine all these blogs that I've alway...

Hello...

Okay... so... probably won't actually use this since the whole blogging thing is all rather silly. I mean, it's either rabidly partisan politics or whining angsty emo teenagers. Actually, I rather lik...
