ApologetiX (That Christian Parody Band)

About Me

Lead Singer and Lyricist for ApologetiX (That Christian Parody Band). If you're looking for the official ApologetiX entry on MySpace, we have one, but you can find a lot more info and plenty of goodies at www.apologetix.com.

If you have messages for me, I'm still better at checking my email than I am at MySpace, because it takes my computer a lot longer to call up mail here. Plus I'm better trained to check my email every day. My email address is j [at] apologetix [dot] com.

I have a lovely wife, Lisa, and four darling daughters, Janna (11 1/2), Heather (6), and Kelly (4 1/2), and Natalie (just born 2/21/08).

My Interests

The Bible, sports (professional and college), music, and any trivia associated with them. I'm also a former baseball-card collector and comic-book collector, and my wife and I love to watch movies.

I'd like to meet:

Hmmm ...

I'd like to Meet The Beatles ... but that's not going to happen unless Uncle Rico works out the bugs in that time machine he bought online, is it?

I'd like to Meet the Press ... but I'm a former journalism major and former reporter, so been there, done that.

I'd like to Meet George Jetson ... Jane his wife ... daughter Judy ... his boy Elroy.

Music:

ApologetiX (That Christian Parody Band) specializes in Biblical parodies of rock songs from the 1950's to today, everything from Elvis to Eminem. It's like "Weird Al" Yankovic meets Billy Graham.

Movies:

Jesus of Nazareth, Forrest Gump, Second Hand Lions, Late for Dinner, Terminator I-III, Planet of the Apes (original), Godfather I-III, The Freshman, Shrek, The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, This is Spinal Tap, A Mighty Wind, Almost Famous, The Rutles, The Princess Bride, Napoloeon Dynamite, Mystery Men, JFK, The Rock, Con Air, Galaxy Quest, Elf, Stand By Me, Jerry Maguire, Star Trek movies (the even-numbered ones), Raiders of the Lost Ark (the odd-numbered ones), Back to the Future (even the middle one), The Empire Strikes Back, Second Hand Lions, The Notebook, National Treasure, A Bug's Life, Monsters Inc., Hi Fidelity, Gross Point Blank, The Breakfast Club, St. Elmo's Fire, Stripes, and the Blues Brothers.

Note: Some of these movies have a few unfortunate moments that I wish weren't included, so I am not offering this as a sweeping recommendation.

Television:

ESPN's Sports Center, Court TV's Forensic Files, most things on the History Channel, VH1's "Behind the Music," "I Love the 80's" and "I Love the 70's" (except for some of the innane commentary), Seinfeld, Arrested Development, Everybody Loves Raymond.

I don't endorse everything on all of the above shows.

Books:

The Bible. Far and away my favorite book. Period. I also enjoy most biographies and most reference books on the Bible, music, sports, world religions and cults.
Some favorites include: "Kingdom of the Cults" by Walter Martin, "Another Gospel" by Ruth Tucker, "Evidence that Demands a Verdict" by Josh McDowell, "More Than a Carpenter" by Josh McDowell, "The Billboard Book of Number One Hits" by Fred Bronson, "Top Pop (The Complete Book of Billboard Hot 100 Hits)" by Joel Whitburn (and all of Joel's other books), and the ESPN Sports Almanac. Some of my recent favorite reads have been "Clive: Inside the Record Business" by Clive Davis, "Behind the Mask: Kiss the Authorized Biography," "Rabbis Who Found the Messiah" by Good News for Israel, "Exploding: The Highs, Hits, Hype, Heroes and Hustlers of the Warner Brothers Music Group" by Stan Cornyn," and "Darwin's Leap of Faith" by John Ankerberg and John Weldon. When I was a kid, I enjoyed the Hardy Boys and Three Investigators series, but my favorite as a kid was "Summer of Fear" by Lois Duncan.Aside from the Bible, the books that probably had the most profound impact on me were "The Late Great Planet Earth" by Hal Lindsay and the first edition of "The Billboard Book of Top 40 Hits" by Joel Whitburn.

Heroes:

1. Jesus Christ. Everbody else is an another league, of course, but also ...
2. The Apostle Paul.
3. My dad.
