Don't Litter! Please SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS

About Me

I am full of contradictions. I'm a writer, and yet nothing is more terrifying than the blank page. I love kittens and puppies (and adult cats/dogs), but I am an ardent supporter of spay/neuter campaigns (too many pets, not enough homes..it breaks my heart). I love to sing, but the audience makes me nervous. I love to travel, but hate to drive. I wait tables and make fun of artsy-fartsy types, and when I get off of work I hang out at coffee joints and talk existential shop. C'est la vie.

My Interests

Reading, writing, singing, hiking, animal welfare-related activities such as spay/neuter advocacy and coordination, homeless animal advocacy and adoption coordination, theories in physics that do not involve math on my part, hauntings and other unexplained phenemenon

I'd like to meet:

Other musicians, artists, writers, and as always, other folks who work in animal rescue. Breeders need not apply.

Music:

Neko Case, Joy Division, Southern Culture on the Skids, The V-Roys, Scott Miller and the Commonwealth (naturally), Tegan and Sarah, Nelly McKaye, The Ramones, Raoul Malo(?) and the Mavericks, Minton Sparks, They Might Be Giants, Mindless Self Indulgence, Iris Dement, Shivaree, Eliot Smith, Morphine....etc.

Movies:

Stranger than Fiction, Idiocracy, What the Bleep Do We Know, Donnie Darko, Ernest Scared Stupid, the original Dracula (1931), 1960's version of Nosferatu, Box of Moonlight, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (you know, the cartoon version where Ichabod Crane puts too much pepper on his deviled eggs and it makes you want to eat them)....Anything different, made well, an irrelevant storyline is ok as long as it makes you think (except for porn, it transcends neither and that's ok)........

Television:

6 Feet Under, Simpsons,Little Britain (on BBC--those damn brits are effing hilarious), CSI, Family Guy, Mind of Mencia, South Park...you CAN be the literary type and love intelligently written tv, by the way, so nyah!

Books:

Ecology of a Cracker Childhood (Janisse Ray),Blood and Chocolate (Annette Klause); Catwings (Ursula K. Le Guin); Black Beauty (Anna Sewell); White Oleander (Janet Fitch?); Stiff (Mary Roach); Haunted Heartland...I read everything i can get my hands on, special interests being in social change, good fiction/poetry, animal welfare, environmental news/how to live a more environmentally sustainable life......NOt a gloomndoom eco/feminazi, i just want to leave the world in better shape than i found it

Heroes:

Margaret Sanger, who campaigned for reproductive education/birth control in NYC in the early 1900s

Are You There, God? It's Me, meg. You were just kidding about the seven horsemen, right?

A little Judy Blume plug, though I am sorry to say that this blog is not about masturbation.   If you were ever a teenage girl or a tight faced anti-sex-education book-censor, you know what I'm t...

Turn your head and cough

When I found myself squatting on the cold linoleum floor of Food City at 11:30 at night, comparing the ingredients of different cough syrups, I began to wonder if my body was holding my i...

Warning! I slap you now

A man is going to get slapped in the near future if the gender doesn't stop pissing me off with inappropriate comments. It is not okay to tell me that my choice of bachelor's degree is "*snicker*...
