I am the bassist/backup vocalist for the local thrash metal band Howitzer. Music has always been a huge passion of mine and I have had the best experiences of my life while being in this band. Not only do I get to play music I love, but I get to hang out with two of my best friends and brothers.
We combine elements from all musical styles and from our individual influences and create something that nobody else has. If you like it, you like it. If you don't, then fuck you! We write music for ourselves and nobody else. Too many bands write music for a certain crowd or trend that is popular, not what they feel. That's a bunch of bullshit right there!
Pantera is considered one of the best heavy metal bands of all-time. They wrote music for themselves and came up with a sound that is unmatched to this day, and people respect them for that. They rose to the top through the underground and each album got heavier over time whereas most metal bands usually get softer over the years and eventually give in to trendy bullshit, but they never did.
That's what I hope to achieve in Howitzer. I want to create a sound that nobody has heard before and write albums that make people think. When I am on my deathbed, I want to be proud of the music we made and respect everything that we did. I want to look back and be like, "We fuckin did that! We created that. That raw, heavy, and fast sound with that powerful groove and emotion." Even if we didn't go anywhere, I will be proud that we got to do something that we were passionate about because a lot of people never get a chance to experience that in their lifetime.
