About Me
While the state of Hip-Hop continues to be scrutinized by enthusiasts and foes alike, its prominence is without comparison as artists from all walks of life assemble about its roots, unremittingly stretching its branches across space and time. From its very inception into the music genus, Hip-Hop has been a conduit for critical thinkers and ..s of the American urban landscapes, a mean to communicate to others the jump-off of contemporary life.
From that standpoint, New York native SIANI bequeaths to Hip-Hop his debut album titled REPARATIONS, a menacing compiled work of self expressive lyrics transmitted through form, style and aesthetics over the tantalizing sounds of producer JEWDEA.Its about self motivation. Thats what Im about, declared SIANI with his fingers tapping away at a laptop, chatting with fans on Myspace during a studio session. When you listen to my music, I want a light bulb to click in the head like yeah, Im due something.
Its not even about music, its about life. If you play ball, you act, you work in a bank, you have your independent hustle. You feel like yo, Im due to be manager, Im due to run this company because Ive been putting in work for x amount of years. You are due if you are a hard worker. All my hard workers, my grinders and my hustlers theyll understand.
A product of the Brooklyn Borough, SIANI, born Mike Paulemon, recollects not the day he actually got introduce to the hip-hop culture, for he maintains it was entrenched into his very existence, but the days of which he gain consciousness, knowledge of self and its surroundings.
Like most young urban black males, SIANI hit the streets early and through one way or another, paid the price. After rude eruditions of unpleasantness through the streets of Brooklyn, he carefully eyed the movements of his older brother and always working father, coming to terms with the art of getting money and the consequences of such before hooking up with his existing crew through Israelite brotherhood philosophy. From then on, SIANI teamed up with a few childhood friends and started a small investment company, dealing in real state around New York and Philadelphia. But his interest in hip-hop and music never wondered far from his vision and thus he eventually structured a working relationship with friend JEWDEA, who was in line to startup Tone Def Productions.
Once JEWDEA cut him a key to the studio, SIANI, possessing unrelenting thirst for knowledge and art appreciation, decided the streets were no longer an option and submerged himself into making music. He collaborated with numerous artists in the bustling New York underground scene, dropping singles and experimenting with a variety of styles before coming into his own.
In such a competitive environment, where opportunity is a matter of being at the right place and time, Siani, who represents the Flatbush area of Brooklyn, an enclave dominated by Caribbean descendents, feels the content of his music while aligned with traditional Brooklyn narratives is diverse and insightful, thereby giving it an edge.Coming from a different side of Brooklyn, Siani explains. Im more of a West Indian influence and that reflects in my style as well as my flow. The Brooklyn mentality of hustling and getting money is forever ingrained in me.
With the experience gained through murky circumstances, disappointments, and the occasional accomplishments, Siani decided that its time that the Rap community deals with the concept of REPARATIONS through him.
