IT WAS WRITTEN IN THE STARS Gaye Lee and Roger both hail from San Francisco, where Janis Joplin and Big Brother and the Holding Company hooked up, so they were already infected by the Bay area sound. Roger was already playing in a band with his brothers in the mid 80s called "RMS McConnell" when he heard rumors of this ballsy throated woman named Gaye Lee Russell. Well, the rumors were true and with musical respect for each other, they immediately started playing music together and how sweet it was. It all peaked one night at "The Lost Dutchman" in Springfield Oregon. A local radio station, KZEL broadcast the show live doing tunes like Percy Sledges "When a Man Loves a Woman, T-Bone Walkers "Stormy Monday", and Katrina and the Waves "Walking on Sunshine" and so on. Although Gaye Lee was always compared to Janis Joplin no matter what material she sang, she demanded respect on her own merits. Over the years, Roger would whisper in Gaye Lees' ear "are you ready to do a tribute to janis yet?" and she would laugh and say "NEVER".
Well lucky for you NEVER has finally arrived after over 20 years. Instead of resisting the obvious Gaye Lee has embraced the idea whole heartedly and that's great news to thw world of Janis fans .
The time is now to check out the Janis Experience.
