About Me

I'm a 28 year old student at UGA--at times I feel like Billy Madison. I am a veteran who spent a year in Iraq, and I have an especially keen dislike for our current President. Myspace Backgrounds

My Interests

I live for memorable moments--those moments you immediately think of when asked to describe the most incredible times of your life: Dancing in the rain after a long drought, landing on US soil after a year in combat (I felt EVERY emotion at the same time--it was powerful), drinking beer out of a Stetson at an Army buddy's wedding, seeing Big Sur for the first time... Writing, reading, making a mess of things in general. The dark mountain recesses...

I'd like to meet:

FORMER PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH (will that day never come?)

Jason Toole, Modest Mouse, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Devandra Banhart, Ween, Reid Paley, Chuck Weiss, Ben Harper, Iron & Wine, Lucinda Williams, The Pogues, Talking Heads, Neutral Milk Hotel, Captain Beefheart, Magnetic Fields, Elliot Smith, Bob Dylan, David Gray, the Flaming Lips, you know...this list could go on forever.

Movies:

BIG BAD LOVE (see it if you haven't), Boondock Saints, Donnie Darko, the Salton Sea, Fight Club, Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill!, Harold and Maude, Secondhand Lions, and it's taken years, but I'm coming around from my hatred of David Lynch movies, and even find myself liking some of them.

Television:

Not much...Do you remember when MTV played videos? The Simpsons, House, A-Team, Colbert Report, Daily Show.

Books:

A Prayer For Owen Meany, East of Eden, Herman Hesse, Interpreter of Maladies, Beautiful Strangers, the poetry of Neruda, Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates, Infinite Jest, In the Hand of Dante.

Heroes:

You know who you are, you are the ones that watched over me because I watched over you. You are the ones that shared a bottle of Jack Daniels on a Christmas Eve so far from home. You are my heroes--the walking tall Cavalry Scouts that led the way home. 1-7 CAV GARRY OWEN! SSG Evey, SFC Mos--we all miss you guys. Every day. Rest in peace--we'll catch up at Fiddler's Green...eventually.

Why I write

While in Iraq, a soldier friend of mine asked why I write.  Why not paint?  he asked.  This was my response,     I write because every song rings true at dusk.  I ...

College Life...Yeesh

So, things are mellowing out here in A-town quite a bit.  The homeless lady with the electric voice-box/trach. tube seems to have ceased stalking me, but perhaps she's only moved to stealth mode ...

My war journals

We've proven our frailty.  A bunch of shadowed figures clutching in the dust.  No mist, no green hill; nothing to hide this broken landscape from judgement.  Naked, the sun takes its to...
