spending time with Andrea, getting to know my son, playing music, listening to music, watching movies, reading books which later became movies, watching Herd football,
watching Chad Pennington throw for the Jets, genealogy, collecting family photos--new and old, and meeting new cousins, great-aunts, great-uncles, etc.

I enjoy many styles of music, especially since I once majored in music and was exposed to many classical artists: Chopin, Beethoven, Liszt, Bach, Tchaikovsky, etc. Overall, there are too many to list....but I'll try:
Led Zeppelin, Primus, anything with Les Claypool (he's just fun to watch), Beatles, Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam (the early years), Metallica (also the early years), CCR, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Nirvana, The Doors, Maynard Ferguson, Frank Zappa, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Korn, Bela Fleck & The Flecktones, Beastie Boys, Beck, The Cranberries, Dave Matthews Band, The Eagles, Enya, G. Love & Special Sauce, G N'R, Jane's Addiction, Billy Joel, NIN, Pantera, Queen, Red Hot Chili Peppers (before 1995), STP, Tool, U2, and Violent Femmes to name the most important ones. Most of my friends know that I haven't liked any new music on the radio in the last 10-12 years. But then I saw Wolfmother in 2006 on the Conan O' Brien Show. I must say that they are the best band to come onto the scene in the last 10 years. And there's also my hometown favorite, Michael W. Smith (he went to high school with my mother in the 1970s).
Then, I can't forget the big bands of the 1930s/40s. There's just something about that music that has always had a special place in my heart, greatly in part to my late grandmother Smith. The talent in those bands is something unmatchable in today's world. I should have been born 80 years ago. The obvious ones are: Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Harry James, Artie Shaw, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, etc.

I used to always watch TV in the evenings, but lately, not so much, especially since we got rid of cable and I've been writing my book. But I'll watch Jay Leno and Conan O' Brien as I'm going to sleep. Andrea and I watch ER and Scrubs together occasionally. And that's about it...Oh, well I just started watching Lost, thanks to Brad, but I have yet to begin the 3rd season.
I haven't read a book in about two years because I wrote my own. I call it "The Musical Hayes Family of West Virginia." To give you a little history about it: My great-grandfather Hayes played many instruments and studied music in the early 1900s. He played cornet in John Philip Sousa's Band. Then, he met my great-grandmother while both were touring on vaudeville. Each of them came from musical families as well. The two had 10 children, one being my grandmother, whom I miss dearly everyday, and all were musical themselves. My book concentrates on the stories of all of these individuals.
