what's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding?

About Me

i'm a songwriter and artist currently living in seattle. i'm also a partner in misra records, which features some fantastic bands like the mendoza line, centro-matic, the summer hymns, and great lake swimmers. our newest signings are palomar and hallelujah the hills

check out all the bands here on myspace or at the misra records website:

My Interests

writing and playing music, thai food, weird german pottery from the 60's, pondering the absurdity and wonder of life, fretting over imaginary illnesses, creating art from a variety of media, driving down roads i've never been on, red wine

I'd like to meet:

umberto eco, buster keaton, bob dylan, lauren bacall, jaques tati, my dad again, bernini, jon stewart, a nice gal, pele, thomas paine, willem de kooning, tom dowd, randy newman

Music:

recent spins:

big star - #1 record
the kinks - arthur
os mutantes - mutantes
a tribe called quest - the low end theory
the byrds - sweetheart of the rodeo
elvis costello and the attractions - get happy!

outkast - stankonia
randy newman - good old boys
the buzzcocks - singles going steady
stereolab - live at the bbc
dwight yoakum - buenas noches from a lonely room
visqueen - sunset on dateland

Movies:

recent viewings -
District B-13 - best action movie i've seen in a while. and it's french, although anyone who's followed luc besson the past few years shouldn't be surprised. the guys do their own stunts and they're mind-blowing.
ivanhoe - what a pleasant surprise - a bit hokie, but liz taylor is young and hot, and the action (albeit 50s style) is constant and the story content is pretty heavy for the era (like anti-semitism).
tristram shandy: a cock and bull story - intelligent and funny movie about a movie about a novel that subverts your expectations, with the brilliant and difficult steve coogan .
the freshman - harold lloyd's take on college life. hilarious silent set pieces by an overlooked silent comedymaster.
ride the high country - peckinpah's lyrical elegy to the death of the west with joel mcrea and randolph scott at their manliest.
the inside man - spike lee's surprisingly entertaining big budget heist film.
syriana - too bad they don't make more like this - i only wish it were longer.
touch of evil - orson welles' recently reedited masterpiece filled with incredible imagery, cutting dialogue and an amazing cast - welles, heston, janet leigh, dietrich, etc, etc.
mon oncle - jaques tati's nearly silent, hilarious and utterly brilliant look at the modernization of frech society.

Television:

i like tv:

deadwood, columbo, iron chef!, andy griffith, get a life, twin peaks, the pjs, northern exposure, powerpuff girls, the shield, battlestar galactica, dukes of hazzard, south park, reno 911, dead like me, austin city limits, antiques roadshow, in living color, rocky and bullwinkle, it's gary shandling's show, mr. show, homicide life in the streets, ultimate fighting, the avengers, ernie kovacs, larry sanders, the sopranos, jack benny show, the daily show, the colbert report, you bet your life, history detectives, cash in the attic, creature comforts, matlock, the addams family, early m*a*s*h*, monty python, the shield, happy tree people, kids in the hall
