Going by the name of 2-Fresh, AQUA was a member of a Philly based group by the name of 2-Kannon. 2-Kannon was signed to Pendulum Records (Elektra), with groups such as Lords of the underground, and Diggable Planets. AQUA was the writer for the lead vocalist of 2-Kannon, a female m.c. by the name of K-Swyft. They released a single in the early 90's called "Keep it goin'", and the song was in regular rotation on Q102 in Phila. They opened up for groups such as Onyx, Illegal, Wu-Tang Clan to name a few, but their most noteable work, was done with a female m.c. out of Philadelphia named Bahamadia. AQUA wrote K-Swyfts' verse on the track "Three da hardway",(see video below) produced by D.J. Premiere (Gang Starr) The song was very sucessfull for it's time, reaching number One spots on New York city radio stations. As the laws of street life goes, AQUA would fall victim to ghetto mentality, dropping out of school in the 9th grade, and catching numerous cases ranging from stolen cars, to guns, to assault on an officer, which landed him in prison for two years. It was in prison that AQUA recieved his GED, and changed his performance name from 2-Fresh to AQUA (A Quite Unique Artist). After his release in Oct. 2000, AQUA vowed to take his musical talents serious, and leave the streets alone. That didn't last long......In 2003 AQUA was arrested and indicted on 27 counts of drug possesion and conspiracy, after a 5 month investigation by the Atlantic county strike force in the state of New Jersey. AQUA was convicted, and sentenced to a four year prison sentence. After being realeased on parole, he sucessfully completed his parole, and now makes his home in a southern New Jersey suburb.AQUA says......"It's kind of hard looking at these rappers on television (tell lie vision) knowing that they are just putting on an act, and half of them never even experienced street life. I'm not proud of the fact that I ruined my life following crime, but I am proud of the fact that I'm still alive and breathing, and can tell my story to the younger generation."With songs such as "Fortune and Fame", AQUA delivers a positive message to the younger male, and female generation, with smooth tone and delivery.AQUA says......"I wrote that song to speak to the youth, beacause it seems that now, rappers are glorifying violence without telling the kids about the negative side of criminal activity. I just try to say something that's real, that we all can relate to. I mean... I'm not saying I'm "Mr. Keep the peace", but I live in the suburbs now, and I see kids walking around trying to be "gangsta" when they don't have a clue as to the dangerous of that life style. We are exploiting our culture, and it's being turned into a mockery, and that is upsetting".With a powerful delivery, uncanny stage presence and smooth vocal tone..... AQUA is what the rap game has been missing for quite some time."Three the hardway" K-swyft's verse written by AQUA" I've paid my dues along time ago niggaz".
