What matters more, love, money or success?
Manhattan Blue, is a black comedy about New Yorkers in their thirties coming to terms with fading dreams.
Holland owns a failing bookstore and is singer/songwriter in an ill-fated New York rock band. His last dreams of success rest on the band, doomed by interpersonal bickering, an obnoxious agent and the untimely death of a band member. A strange meeting with an Icelandic violinist, Eva, further complicates Holland’s plans for the future. Revolving around Holland are the other characters, each struggling with problems of their own: Jay, young and wealthy, is tormented by an incident in his past; Robert, a budding new writer, is plagued by writer’s block and unintentional plagiarism; and Alison, mature and loyal, is frustrated in her search for personal contentment.
Ultimately, they must all decide if relationships matter more than money or success.
It is a novel with its own soundtrack. Songs and music provide an added window into the thoughts and feelings of the characters.
