I am here for Friends

About Me

who i am
i like coffee, chocolate, and really spicy food (the hotter the better). it's nothing short of a miracle that i do not have stomach problems. i despise sentimentalism. nothing makes me nauseous more quickly than chick-flicks and sappy love songs. i love to sing, but only when alone in the car or the shower.
books are good. some movies are good. pop culture and celebrities are overrated and obnoxious.
i have strong feelings on most topics, but usually don't care to discuss them. i will discuss, but only if you demonstrate a certain flexibility in your position--blind, stubborn, one-sided adherence to a viewpoint is a signal of much deeper issues in your psyche that i am unwilling to explore.
i am quickly bored by people who complain but are unwilling to proactively change their circumstances. if you hate your life, change it. if you hate your world, change it. if you hate everything, perhaps you need to change yourself.
you can read some of my ramblings here . then let me know what you think. if you want.
i have been married for little more than one year. at the risk of sounding besotted, i must say i have never been happier. alex is truly my completion. he knows me, yet still loves me. i know him, and love him. how amazing!
thoughts of intelligent people
"let us resolve to be masters, not the victims, of our history, controlling our own destiny without giving way to blind suspicions and emotions."
-john f. kennedy
"to announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the american public."
-theodore roosevelt
"to find everything profound - that is an inconvenient trait. it makes one strain one's eyes all the time, and in the end one finds more than one might have wished."
-friedrich nietzsche
"all censorships exist to prevent any one from challenging current conceptions and existing institutions. all progress is initiated by challenging current conceptions, and executed by supplanting existing institutions. consequently the first condition of progress is the removal of censorships."
-george bernard shaw
"some people feel the rain. others just get wet."
-bob dylan
"few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. most people are even incapable of forming such opinions."

-abraham joshua heschel
"everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself."
-leo nikolaevich tolstoy
"if you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. if an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality."

I'd like to meet:

people who might interest me
i like people who like themselves and others, who enjoy life, who have a sense of humor and can laugh at themselves but who don't need to laugh at others, who have common sense and are not full of themselves, and who preferrably aren't serial killers. i'd rather not meet any more narrow-minded bigots or people with xenophobia. i know enough of those already. i would like to meet people who are broad-minded, creative, and interesting.
i'm also looking for people to eat sushi with me. i like sushi.
