Great Dane

Perpetual work in progress.

About Me

Great Dane started as a project between Ben And Dre. They (we) recorded an eleven-track CD in November of 2005 called "one-leaf tree" that's available for sale at CDBaby.com . It rocks and you should buy it. In early 2006 and after quite a bit of auditioning, Dave, Ben H. & Jim came on board to help us make the project into a band (because we've heard it said before that you're not a real band unless you play shows and stuff like that~ whatever). Ben and Jim left at the end of August 2006. Greg came on board days later. Dre left in November, and those of us who remain are taking a moment to reflect on life and sound. While we continue to reflect, please enjoy the music.
Ben is playing electric guitar in myspace.com/oaksoldier , and asks that you please give them a listen.
Thank you for reading and stay tuned.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: greatdaneband.com
Band Members: Ben: Guitars, Bass, Banjo, Noise
Dave: Percussion
Greg: Bass, Rhodes, Guitar, Nicotine
Influences: anything that sounded good at the time, and even some things that sounded not-so-good. gin, whiskey, pot, beer, deteriorating mental fortitude, les pauls through marshall stacks, fat & naked men in tiny cardboard boxes, slayer & jimmy chamberlain.
Sounds Like: "anyone? anyone? Bueller?" We've been compared to Bob Mould & Beck, neither of which really gets at what we're doing, but we reckon it's a start. Dean suggests we sound like Dinosaur Jr. or The Figgs. I figure that's getting closer. Thanks, Dean. Paul, in MA, definitely hears Pink Floyd in our music, as well as some '70's progressive & Nirvana-era alternative bands. Thanks, Paul. Chris, in Derby (UK), akins us to Radiohead, with some additional influence from Ride or other early 'shoegaze' bands. Outstanding~ thanks, Chris. Mer thinks that we resemble the Pixies and with a female singer we'd sound like Sonic Youth. Thanks, Mer (who, incidently, is a female singer~ go figure).
Record Label: unsigned
Type of Label: None
