About Me

Last year La Merika recorded with Robin Proper Sheppard (God Machine, Sophia) and in January they released their debut double aside single Go Let The Shadows Die / Hooked Up as limited 7 1000 release on The Flower Shop Recordings. It sold fast reaching number 17 on the HMV singles chart, a feat unheard of for an unsigned band with no press company backing. ____________________________________________________________ ____ They are due to go back into the studio soon to record their follow up single with a summer release scheduled, and an EP planned before Christmas. They played the Secondo Del Vito festival in Cardiff last year and this July are lined up to play the prestigious Plink Plonk festival in Estonia with an Australian tour planned early in the new year. ____________________________________________________________ ____ The single can still be purchased online at sophiamusic.net, onthefringe.co.uk, hmv.co.uk, Sister Ray and selected independent shops ____________________________________________________________ ____ REVIEWS...La Merika, in ancient ages, referred to the star that hung over the yet to be discovered USA. Europeans, at the time, believed it pointed towards the promised land where paradise was set. Here, in the 21st century, it's the name four wanderers, from all corners of the globe, gather under. Now London-based, they're churning out shiny nuggets inspired by bands such as The Church, Joy Division, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Stooges and the Jesus and Mary Chain, fused with their own disjointed sound. With its boy/girl vocal's, gritty guitars, distorted bass and punchy precise rhythms debut single 'Go Let The Shadows die' is an obvious pop gem and in a fair and just world, surely destined for classic status - Rough Trade Shops ____________________________________________________________ ____ The best single so far this year - Kelkoo Music ____________________________________________________________ ____ This is anthemic, infectious US early-mid nineties sounding indie rock with a surprisingly commercial feel - Smallfishnet.net ____________________________________________________________ ____ Tonight La Merika take the roof off. The singles are on the money and their sound encompasses this intimate venue...one of the freshest things we have here at the minute - Artrocker (live review) ____________________________________________________________ ____ This profile was edited with Thomas' myspace editor™ V2.5
