THE CARTELS

2005-2007 - SHITE

About Me

The Cartels hail from a place famous for Wearside Jack, Shipyards and a football team which has not won a trophy since 1973 - Sunderland. An unhealthy interest in all things bad for the body and a DIY-ethos to recording have combined to create a platform to produce songs of the highest order.Halt Promoters! to book The Cartels leave us a message or contact us on [email protected] OBTAIN LIMITED HOME DEMO SEND A MESSAGE WITH ADDRESS

'...The Futureheads second album wasn’t a scratch on the debut, promising Makems The Golden Virgins have split and This Ain’t Vegas just haven’t had the publicity they deserve. Step forward next contestants then, The Cartels.

‘Broken Lights’ is a solid track. Musically it’s pretty simple, steady drums and bass with jerky guitar-work standing out the most. The lyrics retell a common scenario, another monotonous, sordid night out on the town, when staggering home just seems like the best option. Its three minutes of intelligent, diligent music.

‘The Common Cold’ however is more energetic and, in honesty, much better than ‘Broken Lights’. Its two minutes of complimentary but battling guitars without the annoyances of cheesy solos, a driving bass line and jittery drumming.

The best thing about these two tracks is the lyrics make absolute sense and don’t tread the criminal grounds of having loved and lost and some of the other common arse that’s been filling clubs and venues recently…'

'One of Sunderlands up and coming bands which could be stars of the future'

-Peter Brown-

‘The Cartels are a hard working and enthusiastic outfit with some impressive gigs and appearances behind them. Certainly ‘Bring Me The Head of General Fentoni’ demonstrates their song writing capabilities and performing prowess’…

…‘I Particularly like the opener Broken Lights with its punchy percussive work and catchy guitar licks; it has an anthem like quality which works extremely well’
