GHOST IN THE RODEO was formed in Vancouver as a collaboration between Steven Mek and Joshua MacDonald. Steven, a producer/songwriter originally from Toronto Ontario, met Josh a singer/songwriter and veteran of many Vancouver bands while at a Stereolab concert. Despite coming from very different musical backgrounds, during the show they realized they shared similar attitudes towards the production and esthetic of how they approached music. Steven with his production and engineering expertise playing the studio; and, Josh, doing double duty on vocals as well as playing most of the live instruments on the album.
GHOST IN THE RODEO, which initially started as a side project for both Steven and Josh, has over the last 2 years developed into something more. Spending most of their free time in the studio, they have been working on the host of songs for their upcoming debut album FIRE IS INSTANT THEATRE. In the process they have enlisted the help of some other Vancouver artists. Featured on the album is the artful violin of KYTAMI (Area code, Dont wait for me, Stay, Playing Hard To Get and Angels wings), OSC's booming vocals (Take it all from me), the soulful sax of Andrew Spence (For my Maker), the casual ease of Ross Mclean's guitar (Curbs) and a guest vocal by Justine Ross (Area code 301) as well as the sexy sensual guest lead vocas (Safe) by Paula Margarido and Roxy BeBe (Greenhouse).
