Reaver

I am a hunter of peace, seeking the elusive mayfly of love.

About Me

Half a millennium in the future humans live far from a depleted & abandoned Earth. On the fringes of that civilization are the Reavers, raiding, terrorizing, maiming, killing, and eating whoever they find. Some say they aren't human, some say they are humans who were driven insane by the vast emptiness of space. Everyone agrees that they don't want to meet any in person. In one near-legendary battle, a Reaver ship was chasing a Firefly class transport above the planet Whitefall when the transport pulled a "Crazy Ivan" maneuver causing the Reaver ship to explode. A single Reaver escaped the blast, pulled through a quantum singularity just before the ship exploded, transported through time & space to Earth That Was. When she arrived she found herself in the middle of a roller derby bout, with skaters whizzing past her at unbelievable speeds. She jumped up and ran after them, eager to satiate her blood lust. A horrific & bloody battle ensued, but the Reaver's desire for carnal violence was eventually contained. The only skaters able to withstand her terrible nature were the Unholy Rollers, whose undead flesh was not as delicious as that of fresh, live human. She has been a part of that group of rolling terror ever since, and they manage to keep her cannibalistic urges contained. Most of the time. Her favorite snacks include sideshow tarts, "super" heroes, petty criminals, and Bobstacles.

My Interests

Roller derby, knitting, crochet, sewing, swimming, ballroom & other assorted forms of social dance, tap, reading, writing, flying, games

Music:

Just about everything. Lots of ska lately. I love the Bosstones. Richard Cheese. Richard Cheese rocks.... And I will forever have a soft spot for (marching) band music.
PODCASTS!!!! How to make an OK day a fabulous day. Podcasts all the way! The Signal, Firefly Talk, Scapecast, Geek Fu Action Grip, Wingin' It, Slice of Sci-Fi, Podcast411, Dragon Page Cover to Cover, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, Psychobilly Deluxe. Bunches of Podiobooks, too. There just isn't enough time in the day for all the good stuff. At least, there isn't enough time in the day when I'm near my computer.

Movies:

Serenity, Pride & Prejudice (the 1994 BBC/A&E version with Colin Firth - mmmm..... Colin Firth.... - & Jennifer Ehles, but some day I'll get a chance to see the new one, too), Memphis Belle, You've Got Mail, Clueless, Evil Dead (Bruuuuuuce!), Office Space, The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai Across the Eighth Dimension (It's Big BootTAY! John Big BootTAY!!!!), Josie & the Pussycats

Television:

Firefly, but other than that I really can't say. Haven't had a TV for a long time, so I pretty much only watch old things that have come out on DVD. Oh, wait.... Speaking of Bruce.... Might as well mention Xena, Hercules, & Jack of All Trades. I kinda miss having cable, 'cause I loved Nikelodeon's Adult Swim. mmmmm..... anime..... But I can get stuff on DVD easily enough at FourStar, and I've already gotten several of my housemates addicted to Trigun (I swear, if I were an anime character I'd be all over Vash the Stampeed like lint on courduroy - and that's wierd 'cause I usually don't go for blonds...), Farscape

Books:

Anything by C.J. Cherryh (she fucking rocks), the Thieve's World books (who couldn't love literature in which Hellhounds figure so prominently?), Jane Austen, Orson Scott Card, Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Robert Asprin, Robin Hobb

Comics/Graphic Novels: PS238, KoDT, Strangers in Paradise, AstroCity, Most of Frank Miller's stuff, and some day I'll get a chance to read some more works in this genre

Heroes:

Roberto Clemente, Gus Grissom, Ed White, Roger Chaffe, The Quad Squad, Kildare, H. John Heinz III, Grandpa, Hell Hound
