Dagga Layne Record Producer

About Me

Coming from Paducah, KY and now residing in Marietta, GA this producer/songwriter has graced the pages of The Source magazine with Phife from A Tribe Called Quest. And was once publicized as "Raps up and Coming" in an issue of Rap Masters magazine. He was part of a group who opened shows for Heavy D., Hammer, Too Short, The DOC, Karyn White, Nelly, Surface and many others. In 1991, he was given an NAACP award in the category of music achievement. He has been featured on many up and coming artists material as well as worked with the likes of Silk, T-Boz, The Outlawz, and many others. As a producer he has had the privilege of being around and learning from many successful prods like Scott Storch, Jazze Pha, Shawn Sepp Hall from the Sam Salter project, Kevin Kendricks of the Cameo fame, Ced Solo, and a host of others. His music ranges from rock, hip hop, r&b, and gospel as is evidenced by his being able to produce a remix for the highly acclaimed Duran Duran, to doing a remix for Heather Headley, and now working a gospel album for Keith Mitchell (former member of the group After 7). In the past he has worked with Father MC, members of the group Pure Soul, and even has a song that is found in Tionne, T-Boz, Watkins' book "Thoughts" (in the audio book form). Other notables he's been involved with in the studio have been Jamal (formerly of the hip hop act Illegal), Jarvis (So So Def), a soon to be newcomer Robert Conner (of the Rockland outfit). The Robert Conner project enabled Dagga to learn so much by having the opportunity to sit and watch R. Kelly at work. His most recent work has been with a hot up and coming mc named Dreaded X from New Jersey. The entire album was produced by Dagga, and the single should hit stores this summer. There are also big plans for the Dagga Layne/Team 2080 collaboration this fall. With the likes of ETC. mc extraordinaire and te soulful sound of Dante Thomas, there should be good music produced from this. The love of music is evident in his ever changing edge he puts on his works. He states the most important aspect to him doing what he's able to do is his deep faith and belief in God, which always seems to have him in "the right place at the right time". Never having a music lesson and yet still playing his music helps keep him connected to it like a baby to its mother. We hope you enjoy this man, his spirit, his music. The man known as.......Dagga.
