The Lackloves

All the "Power", twice the "Pop".

About Me

The Lackloves were formed in 1996 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin by Mike Jarvis of early-90's power-pop band The Blow Pops, who enjoyed international success with the classic pop albums Charmed, I'm Sure and American Beauties, both released on Get Hip Records. Originally formed as a power trio with Dedrik Bornslaeger on bass and Tommy D on drums, The Lackloves picked up right where the Blow Pops left off.
In 1999, Jarvis got the Lackloves, now a quartet, into the studio and on tape. These session resulted in the now out of sight, out of print As Far As You Know, the fine performances on which do well to showcase Jarvis's Lennon/Townshend/Wilson inspired pop gems. The disc quickly sold out of its initial pressing and can now be found only in the extensive record collections of pop aficionados worldwide.
In mid-2001, Jim McGarry of Rainbow Quartz Records caught wind of The Lackloves, and after hearing the material he signed the band and sent them into the studio. A year later, starcitybaby was released on Rainbow Quartz. Recorded at Milwaukee studio Walls Have Ears, the album had a fuller, more realized sound than the previous Lackloves release.
The band played worldwide in support of starcitybaby, including stints in Madrid, London (inclucing a live performance on BBC Radio), Toronto, LA, New York, Chicago, and in late 2003, represented Rainbow Quartz on their maiden voyage to the Far East, doing a week in Tokyo with labelmates The Singles.
The Beat and the Time( also released on Rainbow Quartz ) was recorded at Milwaukee's Remote Planet Studios in the fall and winter of '03-'04 and features more of Jarvis's hooky guitar pop that he's become synonymous with, as well as the return of original drummer Tommy D. Different production techniqes were utilized, shooting the band's sound off onto a slightly different vector without losing any of that pure pop sensibility. More touring, including another junket to Spain, followed.
2006 finds the boys again a power-pop trio. With Kevin Ponec picking up bass duties, the Lackloves have re-invaded Walls Have Ears studios to record their third Rainbow Quartz release, Cathedral Square Park. The new album is set for a January 2008 release.
