About Me

I am a beekeeper in southeast Alabama specializing in the tastiest and purest honey in the area! We operate two apiaries in Dale County and market our honey and hive products both locally and nationally. I just finished a two year term as President of Wiregrass Beekeepers Association and have been involved in beekeeping education both locally and statewide for several years. I'm deeply interested in natural means of health and well being which is how I got into beekeeping in the first place. One of our bee related products, Fire Ant First Aid, is the only product of it's kind on the market. I love being able to help others through these gifts. If you would like more information about bees or beekeeping please message me as I have many resources. Check out our other sites at www.hortonsfarm.com and www.hortonhoneyfarm.vstore.ca

More Creative Recycling

I'm still excited about my Mother's Day easel made from a recycled ladder.  I've got my first "subject" almost ready after taping the wood off with blue painters tape.  I'm pretty sure I've ...

My Recycled Mother’s Day

I hadn't given recycling a great deal of thought till recently. It's not that I don't recycle, it's just that it's such a natural part of my life I don't give it much thought.  I'm sure a lot of ...

Quality, Not Quantity

I get asked a lot how many hives I have.  When I tell people I always get a "Wow!" response.  Actually I don't think it's that many.  I can only conclude the reason is that it's more th...

What Do Bees have to do with Fire Ants?

Nothing.  Bees are pretty much oblivious to fire ants.  Each insect lives in its own little social structure and doesn’t interact with the other.  That’s the ecological answ...

60 Minutes and Disappearing Bees

Let me wear a shirt with a beekeeper logo in public and I guarantee questions and comments.  "I heard about the disappearing bees!"  "Have any of your bees disappeared?" "Have they found out...

Converting to Mediums

Well, I wasn't able to work my hives as I had planned but I did have a very productive weekend in the bee house.  There were 13 supers (boxes with frames for collecting and extracting honey) left...
