Nowadays there are DJs who turn up , play cds or records and make people dance. Then there are DJs who can control a dancefloor while mixing those rare records you would kill for. There are very few people in dance music that can do this.It’s because of what Salim does with a broad spectrum of music that makes his sound so fresh and mysterious. His aggressive yet smooth blending habits of mixing Electro-Funk, Miami Bass, Freestyle, Hip-Hop and Dirty House is what sets him apart from the rest! His dance-floor sensibility is uncanny and his understanding of both groove and time can take any dancer into a deep-journey through the evolution of Electro-Funk music. Salim has been dubbed as being a master at this and it is his local appeal in Miami, Florida that has made others take notice. Under alter ego DJ Wreck, Salim has assaulted even Miami’s most veteran B-Boys with his signature style of Electro-Funk and Miami Bass. He has been shaking booties and astounding house-party goers since he was 12 years old and at the age of 16, Salim landed his first residency at the world famous Cameo Theatre on South Beach in the early 90's .Recognition came with 2 releases on Miami’s independent label Napzzz Music. The electro juiced Hoe Magnet EP received positive reviews from many top electro-breaks producers including Tipper, Si Begg, Hyper, Simply Jeff , Andrea Parker and EVAC just to name a few. Second release came through on a collaboration joint for EVAC’s 1st release titled “Terra” on Napzzz Music with a Salim Rafiq remix that got killer reviews from the likes of Exzakt, Dj Storm and Ash-Rock of Hydraulix . He compiled and mashed up Sound Off II, a bass heavy mix CD for UK’s very own Fuel Records. Breakin’ Point, XLR8R, M8, DMC and DJ Magazine have all hailed Rafiq’s sets as, “A true Miami Bass head that will take any dancer on a deep journey into electro-booty breaks territory.”Salim has melted thousands over the speaker systems on his last UK and North America tours , along side fellow electro-breaks assassins Tipper, Cold Fusion Mafia, Si Begg and Andrea Parker, in support of the Sound Off compilations. Salim has also opened for the likes of Autechre, Richard Devine, Ectomorph , Dynamix 2, Jackal n Hyde, Soul Oddity , Si Begg , Anthony Rother, Exzakt, Dexorcist , BassJunkie and Otto von Shirach.... just to name a few.With the advent of a new era upon us , Salim has made alliances with the Subsonic Device Crew , a fresh new label founded by Supreme Ja and Mario Zinsl from Germany .
