MySpace Layouts Joel was born in Tampa, Fl, 1977. His first art experiences were of painting beside his grandfather with oil paints and acrylics. He would copy his grandfathers moves and techniques until he came up with a painting, sometimes very similar, to his grandfathers. Over the years Joel would take a few more classes in art and eventually audition and be accepted to a magnet high school for the arts. There at Pinellas County Center for the Arts (PCCA) at Gibbs High School, Joel was introduced to numerous mediums in art over his four years of school. Photography, wheel throwing, figure drawing and printmaking were just a few he learned over his years there. He also made time for the tennis team and cross country running team, along with singing after school and doing some theater productions. Joel worked for a custom framing shop all throughout high school, learning all of the details of the trade. When high school graduation was finished, Joel studied Art History in Europe for three weeks, after completing three Art History/Humanities courses in St. Petersburg before leaving. Joel continued his education at St. Petersburg College, taking more art courses and furthering his knowledge. After an Associates degree was earned, he moved up to Tallahassee to begin a degree in Art Education. He graduated from Florida State in 1999 with this degree and decided to continue working in the framing industry where he still is today. The year 2001 was when Joel really took to the art scene, entering all shows available, which eventually paid off after much perseverance. Since then Joel has shown in numerous charity events, social gatherings & art exhibits in Tampa, St Petersburg and Melbourne Florida. His works have been purchased and are part of permanent collections throughout Florida, along with numerous commission jobs along the way. Joel's work is always evolving and most recently can be identified by color, energy and strong compositional qualities-but he'll let you be the judge of that.
