I started writing about three years ago when I made a New Year's Resolution to learn to play guitar. I'm a christian who is a musician, but not necessarily a christian musician. What's the point of being a missionary, if all you're going to do is preach to christians? Though I do have the greatest respect for those who do have this calling. Especially the ones who do it well like Matt Redman, David Crowder, Derek Webb, Poor Rich Folk, and Switchfoot to name a few. I tried to write about God, but I just don't feel like I know HIm well enough yet. I want to make sure I'm inspired and not forcing it just so I have something to sell to a sometimes manipulated and taken advantage of Christian market.
I want to influence people by how I act and not just by what I say. I believe in a God of love and convictions and not of rules and religions. I think people that try to prove that God exists are fools because it cannot be done. If we could prove God logically then there would be no need for faith. The best way to show our faith is by showing love and mercy to others regardless of what they think or do. Too many Christians in America have done a terrible job of this.
I don't think that consuming alcohol is a sin if it's done legally, with responsibility, and in moderation. And I don't believe swearing is a sin unless it is meant to hurt someone. I'm not saying that we as christians can go around drinking as much as we want and swearing because we are being very closely watched by others when they know that we are christians. I'm just trying to make the point that too often we narrow christianity down to just living by the rules instead of living by love. I think God would much rather us be loving, forgiving, and merciful with a little fray around the edges than perfect little legalists who don't drink, swear, or do anything wrong, yet pass judgement on people that we see sin and only associate ourselves with people inside our little christian bubble. Like Jesus, we have to learn to love the unloveable. And not go into every relationship that we may have thinking that we can "change this person for the good."
I love to meet new fans and talk to old friends. Please message me and I will as timely as possible write back.
Don't worry, I'm normally not this serious. I just didn't want to be, or try to be, clever like other artists and fail miserably making myself look like a huge dork.
I'm also on facebook at Baylor University if you want to be facebook friends!
