Perpetual like the cycles of the sun and moon

About Me

Myng the Magnificent holds the ring of power, controlling mind-altering states of consciousness. If music is the power to take you away to another place, a DJ holds the ring of power - the circle of turntablism, the circle of the loop, the circle of the circle, loop of loops the mix and the remix. If music is the power, the break is the opposite, the power of stop, the power of control.
Enlightenment (Myng) Myng is composed of two ancient pictograms in their modern, stylized form: sun, jih, and moon, yüeh. Jih was originally represented by a round, primitive sun drawing, yüeh by a crescent moon. Together they light the world.
All DJs can be a DJ Myng, but only one DJ can be the DJ Myng, who spends hours a day for countless years thinking of ways that he can improve on sound and ways that he can share it as well, who loves connection with people and always felt that he wanted to be connected to this and his music in its deepest way. "As a DJ its an amazing feeling to control this. I am very intuitive and can feel out a crowd very quickly." "When I make music I stop and look for the essence. Its all about essence! Its like fishing. The studio is the habitat, the essence is the fish and I await the strike." Myng
Artist - Short Description: Sophisticated, cosmopolitan native of the boroughs of New York City - I grew up in the projects of Starrett City, right outside Brownsville just south of Bedford-Stuy in one of Brooklyn's most ethnically and culturally mixed neighborhoods. This taught me the true meaning of diversity. @ 15 years I moved to Coney Island. I graduated from both Kingsborough Community College with a degree in Broadcasting and Saint Johns University with a degree in Film/Music.
I lived in London when Drum and Bass was in its beginnings. I learned how to mix the basics of D&B from its originators, especially from a local DJ Mr. Brownstone. Several months later, I had acquired a sweet collection of tracks, souvenirs from my trip abroad. Another souvenir: I watched legendary DJs like Ray Keith spin up close at BM SoHo. Seeing how fast mixing Drum and Bass could be done I felt déjà vu, like I was back in NYC watching another epic DJ battle in NYC on scratching. These guys mixed all their newest tracks with at least a BPM of 170-190 in seconds with no headphones. Where would you ever see skills like that?! Six months later I was back home in NYC with my new style. I practiced 15+ hrs a week for several years trying to perfect the mix. I built a DJ booth in my house and watched as musicians and just people chilled every day for some bliss while I - aka DJ Myng - just practiced, practiced, practiced.
I worked on audio and video recordings for major companies and TV spots. Aside from DJ-ing clubs, house parties, radio stations and city events. Ive recorded with many bands, vocalists, bassists, drummers, guitarists over the years. I have been fortunate to visit record stores around the world meeting many DJs and producers along the way. Nothing happened overnight - Ive been called everything from tenacious to relentless in my pursuits over the years - but I persisted to educate myself and to finance my personal studio. After becoming established, Ive made myself a valuable and versatile performer.
I make all kinds of music: Down-Tempo, Drum and Bass, Hip Hop, Trip Hop, Ambience, House and Experimental. I hear the duality of life the music and the break - from the samples I use. My music is dark & beautiful with a kiss of turntablism. DJ Myng was recording his own material for several years, most which is now seeing the light of day. Many new singles will be released every few weeks. In addition to audio, I do video editing and will be posting videos soon. I am grateful that audio has enhanced my life.
What Im doing this minute Im mixing together lots of textures with amazing transitions. Im spending a few months just on customizing my own filtered beats. I make my beats on the MPC 1000, cut the arrangements in Protools, then play my melodies on keyboard using various software synths. I then mix it all up on the Rane Serato DJ system. Things to come Im currently working on an Internet Radio Station called "Global Vortex Radio". Producers who would like to submit their material can send to our private ftp at:http://www.sendspace.com/dropbox/jnkgg3 or directly at our site at: www.globalvortexradio.com and click on submit music.
