"The Artist"Roberto Rodriguez-Garcia (Philadelphia, Pa) Performer, Teaching Artist, Choreographer was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico. While in Puerto Rico, Roberto was trained in numerous Latin Dance styles including: Salsa, Merengue, Plena, Bomba, Danza, Seis, Chachacha, Rumba, Tango, and Pasodoble.Upon his arrival in Philadelphia at age six, Roberto continued his Latin dance training at Taller Puertorriqueno under the direction of Maribel Lozada. He also incorporated acting classes with Victor Corsino and partner Fransico to add intensity to his performances.In September 1999, Roberto was accepted into the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts (C.A.P.A) where he received his first glimpse of Ballet; Modern, Jazz, Hip-Hop, African and Lyrical dance training. As a member of CAPA’s Dance Company, Roberto performed for Ed Rendell’s Inauguration, an award ceremony for Patti LaBelle and The Philly Pops. Roberto raised the rank of choreographer in his sophomore year with “Conga” and later “America” performed by Capa’s Company. Roberto graduated in June of 2003 receiving numerous awards and acknowledgements.During high school, Roberto was introduced to the multi-cultural, performance-based dance company, Traci Hall & Co., where he trained vigorously and quickly advanced to “Featured” performer. Venues included: Penn’s Landing, The Please Touch Museum, The Philadelphia International Airport, Sharon Baptist Church and the Kimmel Center to name a few. A highlight was performing for Bill Cosby, Philadelphia City Council Members and School District of Philadelphia CEO, Paul Vallas for the “Year of the Child” award ceremony where Traci Hall & Co. were honorees in 2004.Roberto was also a member of the critically acclaimed Eleone Dance Theatre under the Artistic Direction of Shawn LaMere Williams for 5yrs. He was incorporated into the holiday favorite “Carols in Color” in December 2003 and by December of 2004 Roberto rose to Lead Principal Dancer in this Holiday production playing the part of the angel “Gabriel”. Roberto enjoyed a full performance schedule with Eleone Dance Theatre.Roberto is not only known as a dancer, but he also has the pleasure of obtaining a title in the Modeling world. He is the proud titleholder of “Mr. Latino 2004” from the Ms. Latina/Mr. Latino Beauty Pageant in Philadelphia, Pa. As Mr. Latino 2004, Roberto has had a great chance to present himself in numerous of important political events, as well as becoming the organizations personal Dance/ Modeling Coach. Roberto has also utilized his training in acting this past year becoming Principal Dancer and Dance Captain in the Independent Film entitled “Life Knocks” which is a Philadelphia-based music Documentary Film focusing on lupus Awareness. Created and Co-produced by Cynthia DiClaudio. Which will be premiered at the Prince Theater in fall 2005.Currently, Roberto has made a transition from Classical Dance to the Latin Dance Scene. Roberto has made it a goal to return to his Puerto Rican roots and establish his name in the Latin Industry just as he has in the Classical. So to all this is a heads-up! Roberto is more then ready and equipped to become an all around Dancer/Entertainer. Well what can I say !! I'm a well educated, goal oriented, professional individual.
