About Me

.. Okay, I know I'm not great, but click play anyway. This is the best song ever written, more meaningful today than ever. ~Jim Oh, and I know what you're thinking..."Gawd this Jim guy must have huge balls to have posted this song with his mediocre singing and playing skills". No worries mate, I don't live to satisfy anyone but me. Besides, I'm better than this, I get nervous for the camera like anyone else.
In case you're wondering, the background pic is me sailing my Explorer 45 (which was my home back then) off the coast of Mexico. I don't have her anymore, but still sail when I can.I'm out of the mainstream, off the beaten path, and am my own drummer. I prefer backroads to highways. If a salesperson tells me something is "popular", I usually chuckle and do not buy it. I enjoy giving my dogs peanut butter for laughs. I love their joy on every walk we take; because it's as if they've never done it before. I'm trying to learn to view things through their eyes, for selfish reasons. I shower regularly, and thoroughly, but could use some help getting to my back, which has no hair on it. My head has all of the original issue. I know how. I'm creative, in and out of the bedroom. I'm a pleaser and a giver. I love to sing and play guitar, but not everyone loves it when I do. My dogs seem to enjoy my music, as they're struggling to lick off their peanut butter. I will write, play and sing songs for you. Some could make you laugh. Some might make you cry...the good kind of tears. I can dance, with or without a partner. I'm not great at it, but there have been no lasting injuries. I have all my teeth, and no cavities. Children, animals, and old people seem to find me attractive. I enjoy it when they do. If you need to get into my lane, I will let you in...gladly. I never litter, and always recycle. If you litter, or do not recycle, I will not like you. Yup, that's a deal breaker. Sometimes, I say things like yup, and dang it. My favorite thing is sleeping on the top deck of my houseboat under the stars after a great day of wake boarding, and one of my fantastic BBQ lake dinners, shared with good music, good wine and good company. It's a great place for "romance" too. ;o) I can order wine with the best of them. I clean my ears with a Q-tip every day, and sometimes floss while watching TV, but will stop that if someone beautiful moves in. My dogs don't seem to mind, but I realize a woman might. I'm a multi-tasker, but I understand that sometimes it's important to focus on one thing. I can make someone very happy, and would like to. I listen intently. I am very embarrassed by our current president & his administration, and would like to see him impeached. I have lots of ethical principles, and no religious ones. When I sell a car, I tell the buyer every fault I know of. I'm very nice to people in all stations of life, from the people that clean my office or collect my garbage, to my doctor. I can make you laugh...hard...and often. Perhaps I will...

My Interests

A Not So Brief Photo History of Me...
I love volleyball, tennis, wakeboarding, surfing, sailing, wind surfing, SCUBA, snowboarding, skiing, guitar/singing, dancing, chess, reading, weightlifting, hiking with my dogs, home improvement...outdoor sex, preferably near/in major bodies of water. I do all these things on a pretty regular basis. Well, except for the sex in the water thing, but I'd like to give up my celebate lifestyle sometime soon. :o) Here's another hobby, restoring cool old cars. My 73 MGB below. Wanna go for ride? That's my house in the background if anyone's interested. Here's another of my cars. '97 LandRover Defender. And last but not least, my '81 VW Camper, also restored by me, including swapping out the VW engine for a much more powerful, clean burning, Subaru engine. This baby goes over 100 mph AND gets 20+ mpg!I restore boats too. Here's the world-famous competition ski/wakeboard boat...Tow Jam.

I'd like to meet:

Pretty simple, and easier to say than do. I'd like to meet an intelligent, funny, and sexy woman for a lifelong friendship full of passion and fun.Today, someone asked me why I've never married and have no children. I answered that I've always wanted to do both, but have never been lucky enough to meet the right one, and have always been smart enough not to marry the wrong one. So it goes.I also like the saying that goes "don't marry the one you can live with, marry the one you can't live without".

Music:

Just found Joe Purdy on this site. Like him a lot. Big fan of John Prine, Widespread Panic, Grateful Dead, The Waifs, John Gorka, Richard Shindell, Steve Earle, Sheryl Crowe, Lyle Lovette, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Indigo Girls, Neal Young. From this site, I really like Pete Gare, Animal Liberaton Orchestra (thanks Deah!), and Alastair Moock. And I think Josh Cole's "Love is a Comma" is one of the most beautiful harmonies ever laid down, with as incredible an interplay between the electric and accoustic guitars I've ever heard. You get the idea. Poets with guitars are my favorites. Maybe because I'm a wannbe one of them...sort of.

Movies:

Stuff that makes you think, feel, laugh and cry. For example: The Notebook, It's a Wonderful Life, Forest Gump! Good Will Hunting, Saving Private Ryan, The World According to Garp, The Graduate, Parenthood, Lost in Translation, Love Actually, About a Boy, Memento, Dances with Wolves, Mystic River, Farenheit 9/11, Bowling for Columbine, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Life is Beautiful, The Family Man, The Princess Bride, Shrek, Ice Age, Blazing Saddles.

Television:

Journeyman, Heros, Boston Legal, The Office, Countdown with Keith Olberman, House MD, Survivor, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, 60 Minutes, Simpsons, Comedy Central Presents, Friday Night Stand up, Modern Marvels and anything else on the history or documentary channels, any RAVE HD Music show, Sound Stage on PBS, Austin City Limits, The Office, any of the Tennis majors ... Yes, unlike many of the hoity toity people here and on other sites, I will admit it, I enjoy watching TV. There, I said it. And yet, I still find time to read...see below.

Books:

All the Pretty Horses, Man Without a Country, Catcher in the Rye, Les Miserables, The World According to Garp, The Living Forest, Timeline, Still Life with WoodPecker, The Sirens of Titan, Cat's Cradle, The Cider House Rules, A Prayer for Owen Meany, Slaugherhouse 5, Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe, So Long and Thanks for all the Fish, Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot, Of Mice and Men, The Old Man and the Sea, To Kill a Mockingbird,

Heroes:

All the musicians in my friends list. John Murtha & Cindy Sheehan for showing true courage and patriotism. Thomas Jefferson, who said "Dissent is the highest form of patriotism". Jon Stewart, Steven Colbert for making us laugh in spite of how ridiculously bad the news is. James Blake & Andre Agassi for being good humble human beings AND spectacular athletes. Dennis Kucinich for speaking his mind honestly, and sticking to the same story regardless of which way the polling winds blow. Penny and Cody, for their ability to show pure unconditional love and unrepentant joy.

Everything happens for a reason? Part 2

If I claim to be a wise man, that surely proves I do not know. I know, Kansas said that, among others.  But here's what I think, wise, or unwise, you decide. A friend recently told me there ...
