Looks From Roslyn (writing NEW songs!)

My dreams are merely tools

About Me

Dear readers. Looks From Roslyn is Louisiana native Megan McCauley. Now stationed in southwest Arkansas, she showcase this God-given talent in a big way with the release of LFR's debut ep "Loved Ones Near and Far." With thoughtful lyrics and heartfelt melodies, Looks From Roslyn is a rare form of indie/pop that can't go unnoticed. Much blessings to you.Well, I was born in Seoul, South Korea, but at 5 and 1/2 months old, I flew to the U.S. I was adopted by a Christian family who loved and served God more than anything. I did the home study from kindergarten through my senior year of high school. To this day, I am eternally thankful my parent’s home schooled me. It shaped me and through it, my relationship with God was cultivated. I remember moving several times in Louisiana, but I settled inside a two-story yellow house in a little village called Belcher. During my adolescent years, my parents encouraged me to search my gifts and invest in them. When I was 14, I spontaneously told my Dad I wanted to be a drummer. Through God's beautiful provision and timing, I was blessed with a Pearl drum set. I instructed myself how to play and enjoyed being involved in many church ministries and my brother's band. One day, my Dad asked me if I wanted to learn how to play the guitar. I vividly recall saying that I only wanted to be a drummer. (My Dad had taught my two other brothers, who were both lead guitarists in their bands). However, my interest in learning a few simple guitar chords progressed into a passion to learn all that I could about this new instrument. I was so thrilled at how fun it was to pick up the guitar and make up different sounds of melodies. At age 17, I started playing and learning a couple of praise and worship songs for church and my youth group. After a few weeks, I wrote my first song called, "Bleed" on top of my roof one night. I finished composing it the next day in my bed. After that song, God surprisingly began pouring more words into my heart. I started performing shows in Shreveport and Bossier with a friend’s local band, The Jettison Stage. My brother, Jarred, was back up guitarist and vocalist. When I was 18, my parents decided to move to Arkansas, to their hometown, Arkadelphia. I moved with them. It was a drastic change, but a much needed one for my family. It was amazing, because I then lived closer to relatives. I still fervently pursued music despite the new and different environment I was placed in. Acoustic pop artist, Nick Flora, who was married to my cousin, Carrie, encouraged me to play shows at Thrio's Coffee Shop down town in Arkadelphia as a start for my music ministry. After months of playing small local shows, Nick convinced me to record a 7-song EP. We successfully recorded a CD titled, "Loved Ones Near and Far", inspired by all of my friends and family who had supported me endlessly through difficult obstacles during certain events in my life. In 2006, God told me to go to the two year program at Applied Life Christian College, which was located outside of Hot Springs. Three weeks later, I was hired as a server at our local Cracker Barrel. I saved for my tuition for a year. For extra funding, I performed shows and gracefully accepted donations and love offerings from bands, friends, and strangers. During that time, I attended Henderson State University where my Dad was offered a multi-media tech position. I seized the opportunity to take courses in between working and saving for ALCC. After raising enough, I attended the Bible College for a year. I completed my first year at ALCC and it was the most unique experience of a lifetime. I'm currently back home, working at Cracker Barrel, (still working with a bunch of weirdos) and attending Henderson State, majoring in art. I'm also writing more songs and playing more shows. When I play shows, my sole purpose is not to raise money for my Bible college fund, but to fulfill the universal calling God has placed in my life. If it wasn't for God's strategic plan for me to come to America, and for my parent's unconditional love, I wouldn't be where I am today.

Find yourself a nobody.

I'm not one to meet a person and become best friends with him or her immediately afterwards. But, I must concede...random strangers come across your path for a reason! Perhaps that statement...

You will never know... will you?

There is more power behind what you sow than what your human eyes can detect.  So many times I've wanted instant results, so many times I've wanted that person to say, "Ah, I get w...

Dinosaurs scream for s'mores

It's so great to be back in my natural habitat. Though I'm working back at the Cracker Barrel again, I think it's just the familiarity that strangely gives off this "homie" feeling.  I love...
