A year spent working on a stall at Covent Garden Market, was where I discovered JAZZ! thanks to the buskers; 'Stodd and Tony' (Hot Club de France) and 'Ed Jones,' (on Sax) US3 (Blue note). They inspired me to change instrument. On the advice of a good friend, who knew the whereabouts of an unused double bass lurking in a cupboard at Newcastle Poly, I applied and was accepted. There I met Gina Griffin and Sav Scatola and joined their band as bass player. With only three weeks until our first gig I had to quickly learn to play the doublebass! The Bats Swing were so successful that we were asked to leave the Poly soon after. The bass had to be returned, but luckily my Grandmother gave me the money to buy one of my very own! Later on Paul Ruddick joined the band. We toured throughout England and Europe. The highlights were; being recorded by France Music; being approached by Chrysallis Records and meeting Nigel Kennedy, who asked us to play with him for a series of concerts. Youthful idealism and stupidity kept our spirts free and our band unsigned.
I've finally settled in France after years of touring with the following bands;
