A Red Sun Rises was a progressive rock band that played for a year with the soul purpose to perform and be heard. They saw some local success and even shared the stage with acts like Janus and Favorite.
The thing I enjoyed most about the music was that it would go off on tangents and stay there for a definite period – little orgasms sprinkled throughout the songs, just for us. It was progressive and kept building towards those absolute outcomes.
During this time that I got incredibly involved in the writings of Carl Jung and the dark side of the human psyche. This influenced the mood of the melodies and gave the music somewhere to go.
My favorites were “Color and Line,†which was about Francis Bacon the 20th Century painter whose style was “accidental.â€
I also admired “Simon’s Naked,†simply because the title had nothing to do with the themes described by the lyrics. We all had a hankering to play around with song titles.
