SouthSide On the Town - 12.20
Wednesday, 20 December 2006SouthSideHappy Holidays and Season’s Greetings, Fearless fans! Hope you are enjoying the merriment and excitement of the holidays with your family and friends. It seems there won’t be a white Christmas this year as SouthSide parties around town in the rain but she’s celebrating in style. Tonight she’s having one helleva rockin’ time at the world famous House of Blues with The Outfit, Countdown and Dredge Puppet for the SoundMob CD Release / Farewell 4 Now show.On the main floor, the audience was quite thick for this band’s performance as the curtains opened and smoky fog swirled about the stage. SoundMob opened their set with a rockin’ metal version of Carol of the Bells to get the crowd in the spirit of the holiday season. This was the prelude to what an exciting performance SoundMob style with metal rock sound, primal screaming and one energetic front man. Tom, SoundMob’s stage hopping lead vocalist on guitar, really had the audience hyped while moving about the stage during their opening number, Breakdown. Though it was kind of hard to hear him with his microphone level set a bit low, this reviewer heard every screaming note as they closed the song. Tom was feeling the vibes so powerfully that you just couldn’t keep him still for one moment, Fearless fans. Even while playing the guitar, he was still animated as he hopped or spun around. This type of energy could be felt among the audience, but the HOB security team did a good job of making sure there was no moshing among the audience. They were well behaved, though Tom’s constant movements do keep the crowd excited that some are hopping and dancing along with the band. Yet when he does that scream like he did during one song at the middle of the set, their fans in the audience cheered. This reviewer was also impressed by his raspy vocals in the metal ballad they performed. The song started off in that style before switching to a metal tempo at the middle.SoundMob is a metal fan’s type of band with its heart-pumping music and sound. During one of their opening songs, Tom calmly walked off stage allowing the rest of the band to jam a bit. This instrumental song, like most performed throughout their set, had wicked guitar riffs and drumming by Mauro to close out the song. Their rockin’ instrumentals ruled the night and the audience enjoyed every minute, Fearless fans. Another song had this incredible bassline written by a friend who was in the audience Wednesday night. There was another song beginning with some hard drumming and more guitar riffs that immediately grabs your attention before going down a notch for the lyrics. SoundMob was really cranking up the sound and brought the House of Blues down, despite the one moment the reverb sound off the guitars was a bit hard on the ears. Another song, at least to SouthSide did sound somewhat off key, but it still jammed. Other songs that the band performed had pounding bass rhythms by Bill who thanked the guy for giving him his first bass guitar before a song. There was a song in which this reviewer could feel the bass vibes from where she was sitting. And oh, SouthSide doesn’t want to forget the hot guitar licks by Dan either. She also liked the way the band kept the momentum going by not pausing long between songs, instead moving right into the next one.SoundMob billed this as their CD Release / Farewell 4 Now show, but hopefully the band will rescind that decision as they really performed one helleva show at the House of Blues. To close out their set, the band played the title track to their CD that included part of the ending to the Matrix (the scene where Neo is talking on the phone to the Matrix). SouthSide really liked the way they switched out the original tempo and time signature to feature a series of amazing riffs for a minute or two. After returning to the original meter, they ended the song on a sharp, to-the-point note. Yet, the fans were not ready for them to finish. They wanted one more song and SoundMob gave what the fans wanted. During the encore, Tom once again wowed the audience with his animated antics and that animal scream. The band gave it their all for this crowd, ending the encore with the best closer ever, Fearless fans. SouthSide implores the guys to reconsider and continue rockin’ for the fans like her. And hey, Fearless fans, check out the guys of SoundMob at www.myspace.com/soundmob.SouthSide would like to wish all Fearless fans near and far a very safe, happy and wonderful holiday season.Until next time, Fearless fans, support your local indie artists and music.Peace
