My main interest in life lies in having fun, either through hanging out with friends, playing video games, watching TV, reading a book, taking pictures, or my main hobby of cartooning. I work simply to allow myself to live and have fun. One day I will die, as will us all, and it is my hope that upon the end of it all I can say that I had a good run.
I don't care. I like meeting people who are interesting in some way. Maybe you have a unique hobby, or play an instrument, or perhaps you just like to have good natured debates about life. If you find me interesting, I'd love to meet you, because people who find me interesting are very, very interesting to me. Mostly because there are so few of them. I also prefer said people to be friendly and have a sense of humor. Beyond that, I don't really care. Peoples is peoples, and peoples can be neat.
I am also interested in hooking up with anyone from high school, the Colorado Renaissance Festival, or anyone else that has been left behind by the passage of time.
Harley Quinn: Just because she's crazy, totally insane in such a fun kind of way. That and she's hot.
Edgar Allen Poe: Simply one of the greatest authors of all time. More than just brilliant, he is inspirational even now.
Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter,
In there stepped a stately raven of the saintly days of yore.
Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed he;
But, with mien of lord or lady, perched above my chamber door -
Perched upon a bust of Pallas just above my chamber door -
Perched, and sat, and nothing more.
Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,
By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore,
..Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou,' I said, ..art sure no craven.
Ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the nightly shore -
Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian shore!'
Quoth the raven, ..Nevermore.'
--from The Raven, by Edgar Allen Poe
Calvin: Any kid who can be this intelligent, imaginative, and brilliantly original is more than just worth meeting. This is a child that would do well to be in anyone's life. Provided, or course, that he is not your child and you still have the option of giving him back at the end of day.
I love music. Rarely am I without something playing, even at work. I listen mostly to older works, classic rock being some of the best music around. No other band can hold a candle to Led Zeppelin in my opinion. Other notable classic rock bands include (but are not limited to): AC/DC, Pink Floyd, the Stones, and just about everything else that shows up on 103.5 The Fox. I also enjoy the works of movie composers such as John Williams, Graemme Revell, Hans Zimmer, and others.
Ah, movies. This used to be such a passion in life--more so than it is now. I enjoy many types of movies from the mindless action movie, to those of a deeper meaning. Recent movies I've enjoyed include Transformers, Die Hard, Batman Begins, The Simpsons, Pan's Labyrinth, The 300, and many more. I also enjoy the classics like North by Northwest, The Thing, Citizen Kane (Rosebud), Stalag 17, Sean Connery James Bond films, and just about everything on Turner Classic Movies.
I mean, really, who doesn't like a good testosterone movie like Predator? I love this flick!
I don't have much time for TV these days. That and I don't have cable so it's a lot harder to lose one self in the idiot box when you're stuck with broadcast TV. I do, however, find time for Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who, Torchwood, The Simpsons reruns, and many things on PBS. My TV DVD collection is quite nice, with Monty Python, M*A*S*H, Firefly, Rurouni Kenshin, Trigun, and few other assorted programs.
I really enjoyed Witch Hunter Robin as a series, and can not get over Robin's style. I love it. Yes, I have a crush on an anime chick. Deal with it.
Thought I read less than I used to, and by far less than I'd like, I still find time every once in a while to get lost in the pages of a book. Wil McCarthy is a favorite and has written some of the best sci-fi out there. Also a fan of Terry Pratchett and his wonderful discworld, I have recently found a love of classics as well. Currently I am engrossed in the gripping tales of one Sherlock Holmes. Soon I also hope to begin and finish A Tale of Two Cities. Honestly, Evin, I will read it. Really.
I have also taken time to read a few comic books and graphic novels. This is one of my favorites. The Crow speaks to my dark nature and also to my romantic side.
I have few heroes, since much of what you see of famous people is only a small portion of their lives. I find it wrong to idolize the entire person, when often they are flawed in ways no one should strive to mimic. Thus, I will go over a few whose work is to be appreciated and studied, though I make no comment on their personal (and what should be private) lives.
Bill Watterson for creating the genius that is Calvin and Hobbes. May my meager cartooning someday reach a tenth of the greatness of his work.
Joss Whedon for the wit and charm of all that he has written.
The entire troupe of Monty Python for sharing with the world a brand of insanity that will never cease to amuse.
And finally we reach the greatest hero of them all:
Like all good existentialists, Death is one of my biggest heroes. I do not look forward to meeting him, am not really interested in speeding up the process, nor do I wait for him to visit anyone I know. That does not change the fact that he will come to us all sooner or later, and with that he gives us reason to live, have fun, dream, explore, create, imagine, and reason to remember.
