Born in Chicago and raised by a single mom, singer songwriter Omarr Escoffie has lived of life of hard times and has taken those experiences to create some of the most real and heartfelt songs written in recent times. At age 15, Escoffie’ left home only to live in the back of a station wagon, with the self assurance that his dream of stardom would one day be realized. At 18, Omarr went to Covenant House, a halfway home for abused and homeless kids, by choice so that he could live in Los Angeles, where he felt he could showcase his talents.
Through the subsequent years, Escoffie’ honed his songwriting craft and released his 1st cd "Ambivalence" in 1999 as Slow Car Crash, a one man project while living in Chico, CA.
This sparked a creative flame which led him to release "Come Out and Play Tonight" in 2001 and the EP "Hope on the Other Side" in 2003. This EP marked a musical evolution in his sound featuring a full live band, acoustic guitars, soul, jazz and rock, and a lyrical growth marked by social awareness and a new found hope in life.
In 2006, Omarr released his best work to date, "The Trip We Planned", which encapsulated these musical ideals and showed growth not only as a songwriter but as a singer. These songs realize a lifelong journey and the content, both musically and lyrically, comes from a performer whom is truly genuine. The honesty heard is that of a true musical troubadour, a person committed to a lifelong trip through his songs. This is the type of artist whose life, experiences and honesty mark him as someone we’ll be hearing from for a long time to come.
In 2007, Slow Car Crash did 82 shows by playing 2 national tours, 3 West Coast tours as well as shows at home in Los Angeles independently, and without any label support.
Over the years, Slow Car Crash has opened for the likes of Scapegoat Wax, Imperial Teen, Ozomatli, B Side Players, Pedro the Lion, Damien Jurado, Jesse Denatale, Jonathan Richman, The Toledo Show and has sold over 8,000 CD’s worldwide. The live band currently features Escoffie', and a rotating ensemble of musicians including drummers Nick Amoroso and Brentt Arcement, keyboardists Stephen LeBlanc and John Miailovich, bassists Brian Song and Brian Kukan, guitarist Michael Anderson, and percussionist Chris Asbury.
