BACKGROUND Naledih is a singer and songwriter born in Swaziland in a Charismatic Evangelist family, so she was singing gospel music almost before she could speak. “Everybody had to sing at home before dinner, everyday, for 30 minutes or more!” Naturally, it wasn’t long before she was leading the church choir on Sundays, in an environment that takes its music seriously… At 19, the town of Mbabane became a little small for the dreams and aspirations of this young artist and she moved to Johannesburg. Reliably, her solid musical grounding kept her performing regularly to ever-growing audiences (including performing solo at Rhema Church arena for over 10,000 people). Independent life in the big city wasn’t easy and Naledih did a lot of growing up both personally and musically. Her style started expanding to other genres, reflecting an innate musical talent too rich to be kept in the straight gospel formula.
THE STYLE Naledih is the most down-to-earth diva you will ever meet. She is intelligent and very intuitive, self-taught on top of a very fertile talent. Her personality and deep spiritual roots are revealed in her music, which transpires African soul and a strong but gentle woman character.She is gifted with a truly special voice, in terms of power, texture and range. “I did nothing to deserve it, so I always knew I had to give something back through music” she believes. And so she does, with deep and full lows and hair-raising highs, without being overwhelming: “less is more” she is fond of saying. At once shining and subtle, her voice provides a consistent feel through a variety of styles. But don’t be fooled by the lack of artifice: this is world-class singing, the kind that only takes one listening to make instant converts!
FUTURE PLANS Currently in studio, working on her debut album, the CD will include songs she has created during many years, as well as recent material that comes from collaboration with artists such as Bonani Mambi, Cosmiq, SteadyRock! and others.
Her promotional efforts also got a big boost after a 2008 collaboration in a commercial with Academy award winner Charlize Theron.
PERFORMANCES Naledih will be performing weekly in Johannesburg, at a venue to be confirmed, from July 2008. She is also available for concerts, corporate or private functions, worldwide.
