About Me
Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4Yerkish (y..r-kish) n.
An artificial language using geometric forms to represent words, created for experimental communication between chimpanzees and humans.
Bursting onto the Denver music scene like some crazed and hungry monkey on a fallen banana, Yerkish has been unrolling a frenzy of high-energy, cerebral, fast changing, and experimental rock and/or roll since 2005. When you collaborate four artists from various musical backgrounds, such as classical, heavy metal, jazz, indie prog rock, mariachi, and Peruvian soul, a refreshing ensemble called Yerkish is bound to render an incredible audio/visual experience. Mixing their own film and animation, they mesmerize their audience with a unique production that compliments their high voltage sound. Yerkish has been headlining venues such as the Oriental Theater, Lions Lair, Hermans Hideaway, Larimer Lounge, Cricket on the Hill, and several other rock establishments. Yerkish will continue to evolve by gracing listeners with new recordings and pushing the envelope through their live performances and writing process.
Guitar . Nathan Huisgen
A western New York native and devoted Sabres fan, Nathan is a modest man, with quasi-ambidextrous super powers. He's been know to brandish a delicious peanut butter and jelly in one hand, while wielding a full stack of pancakes in the other. At the ripe age of 6, Nathan found that his interests couldn't be pigeonholed and that there were too many fun things to do to never be bored. After playing hockey for 12 years, playing baseball, soccer, racing bmx and mountain bikes, he finally decided to listen to his Dad and picked up the guitar. You can often find this creature in your near by woods or mountains lost on some bike bath and he is also known to feel safest and maintained when in the company of people who have a penchant for green produce. Nathan is often complimented with a glass of 90 shilling at his side and knowing that country music will not be playing any time soon. And sometimes, just sometimes, when it’s late at night, and the breeze is just right, Nathan can be found at the local disc golf course.
Guitar . Tony Brown
Tony's a mysterious man from many different places...he's like Willy Wonka, but less hair.
Bass . Ian Pinder .
Born October 26, 1979 in Hollywood, FL. Ian was raised in Littleton, CO where he attended All Souls Catholic School. His interest in art and music all started with a kazoo solo in an elementary school rendition of the Beatles Yellow Submarine. Ian had spent most of his time before high school listening to his parents music collection, consisting of Simon & Garfunkel, the Beatles, and the occasional Jimmy Buffet. He then was introduced to Nirvana, and a brief lesson in guitar, he became hooked for life. Ian would spend most of his time in and out of garage bands, playing backup vocals for various singing acts, and being in charge of designing and building college level theater sets. After realizing how relentless the commercial music industry was force-feeding us to believe what was considered good music, he began the process of immersing himself in the local music scene of Denver and Boulder. The search was to discover what it was to create original music. In 2002, Ian sought out to start the instrumental band Eating Five Batteries, with drummer Ryan Eschenbach and Nathan Huisgen. After enjoying little to no success with E5B, Ian quit the band, and married his beautiful wife Kimberly, on Halloween of 2004. Realizing that his attraction to writing original music was far too strong, and he regrouped with Ryan and Nate. Once Tim was set in place as the new singer, Yerkish began its undivided path. Ian now lives happily in Highlands Ranch with Kimberly, and his dog Roughian, and dreams of interesting bass lines.
Drums . Ryan Eschenbach .
Born from the tundra of Green Bay, WI, raised in the woods of Fort Wayne, IN, Ryan started his path as an artist. His first encounter with creativity was at the age of 6, in his neighbors garage. Ryan and his friend Tabatha snuck into the unlocked carport and found a bucket of brown paint, and brushes. By the end of the day, the entire garage and parked cars inside were saturated with elaborate designs, reminiscent of cave paintings. Ryans musical thoroughfare germinated from the tenor saxophone in 6th grade. He became obsessed with jazz and improvisation throughout middle and high school. Drums became a secondary interest reserved for the school heavy metal bands. With the combination of the expulsion from Ball State University, dead end jobs, too much to drink, the frozen, sweltering, uninspiring, black hole that is called Fort Wayne, Indiana, and a little bit of vision, Ryan packed for Denver. He focused the next 4 years on Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. A habit of nervous foot and hand tapping twitch at work one day, ignited the internal rhythm section in Ryan again. After graduating college, drums became an obsession once again. Ryan is now nestled in Northwest Denver, devoted to his beautiful wife Sara, Yerkish, print and motion design, running and backpacking. He can still be seen in his underwear, air drumming to Stephen Perkins, Vinnie Paul, Chad Sexton, Stuart Copeland, Matt Cameron, Igor Cavalera, Danny Carey, Billy Martin, Jon Theodore, Yuval Gabay, and Abe Cunningham...
Vocals . Tim Kaminski
Originally from Anchorage, Alaska, Tim came to the lower 48 to simply get away. Raised on polka, glam rock, and sundry female country singers, Tims vocal tendencies are just as erratic. Always a singer at heart and having such passion for music, he would write many a songs on his guitar and sing them for friends and family. It wasnt until he owned his first C&C Music Factory album, however, did he realize that he, too, wanted to make people sweat til they bled. And so his dream of being in a rock band was formed. After high school, Tim moved to and spent 8 years in Colorado before moving to Boston, where he lived for nearly a year before returning to Denver with his girlfriend, Emily. Back in Denver, he re-established his ties with good friend Ryan and was asked to take part in an aural experiment that would come to be known as yerkish. In his spare time, Tim enjoys gettin crunk with his homeys and reading the dictionary.
REVIEWS
“If there's a more original way to promote your group than passing out bananas with band
stickers on them, I've never heard of it. Their originality also shows in the DVD-provided
montage of weird and interesting images that runs while they perform. (Between the DVD
and the short breaks in between songs, it's a pretty A.D.D. friendly show.) As for the
performance itself, it's full of activity, enthusiasm, and passion. They also have impressive
musical abilities, with their lead singer being particularly noteworthy. I'm not sure if I could
pin them down to a single genre, and I'm not sure if whatever they're doing would necessarily
appeal to "the mainstream". What I do know is that whatever they're doing, they're damn
good at it, and the mainstream is overrated.â€
“Energy near the top of the scale. Very tight sound, even during sudden tempo shifts.
Powerful vocals, and very solid skills from the rest of the band; the lead guitar was
especially impressive. Lots of style changes kept the music interesting. Several people
were impressed by the video they had running during their performance. This band has
only been together about a year? Seriously? Wow!â€
