I tend to gravitate towards Melodic Hard Rock/Heavy Metal.
I listen to a lot of different types of music though. I listen to Progressive Jazz (Allan Holdsworth, Frank Gamble), early R& B (Smokey Robinson, etc.) and I grew up on Elvis.
Having diverse musical tastes helps me write music that is as original as possible.
In my CD Changer right now is...Angra-Rebirth, Kamelot-The Black Halo, Dream Theater-Images and Words, The Babys-Anthology, Rainbow-Kill the King, Akira Takasaki-Tusks of Jaguar, Badlands-Badlands, Judas Priest-Hell Bent For Leather, TNT-Firefly, Saxon-Unleash The Beast, Lynch Mob-Wicked Sensation, Sweet-Desolation Boulevard.
In general, I read just about anything I can get my hands on. Especially if I think will add to my knowledge of the things I hold dear...such as Music (Guitar playing, recording, etc.), Home Improvement, Car and Engine Building and Travel.
Also, anything that I believe will add to my quality of life. Recently I am reading books on Finance.
My taste in books (besides what I mentioned above) tends to lean towards the adventurous. I love magical/mystical fantasy-world type fiction books. Examples are J.R.R.Tolkien, Piers Anthony and Lloyd Alexander.
