About Me
Christian Plouvier was born in Antwerp, Belgium.
He started to play the flute aged 12, graduated at the Antwerp Conservatory at 19, then became a pupil of the famous French flutists Alain Marion and Jean-Pierre Rampal.
In addition to performing with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (Antwerp), the Opera Orchestra (Antwerp-Ghent) and the National Orchestra of Belgium (Brussels), he performs regularly as an orchestral player and soloist in many combinations: harp, koto, piano, harpsichord, guitar, woodwind quintet and larger ensembles.
For more than 20 years, he was a member of the Bellerophon Orchestra, featuring the best
wind players of Belgium. Their repertoire was ranging from Mozart to Stravinsky, including many creations of Belgian contemporary composers.Apart from performing, Christian Plouvier enjoys a successful teaching career, travelling worldwide to
give master classes and seminars (Tokyo, Osaka, Shanghai, Istanbul, Beijing, Ankara). He served 22 years as the Professor of Flute and Chamber Music at the Academy of Music in Antwerp.In 2005 he founded his own recording company, Laura-chan Records, releasing 2 CD: a classical
flute & piano recital "Flutissimo" and a jazz record, "Beyond Borders" with American pianist-composer Bruce Stark.
In May 2007, he was invited to perform during the Belgian Cultural Week in Beijing. On that occasion he gave a flute and harp recital with Wang Guan wich was recorded by CCTV4 at the Central Conservatory of Music. He was also interviewed by Radio China International.
He was invited to give a Masterclass during the International Flute Festival at the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music.
In July 2007 he was the guest teacher at Guoliang Han's Masterclass in Qindao for students from all over China.
In 2008, he will release a new CD: the flute sonatas by American composer Amy Beach and French composer Gabriel Pierné with the British pianist Margaret Ozanne.
Currently residing in Turkey, he performed in Izmir, Adana, Ankara and Istanbul with orchestra and in various chamber music combinations.
