About Me

Hi I'm Darla Jean.
I like:
playing dress up, bass, more bass, sparkly things, karma, music, MAC, skirts that drag the ground, planning events, UNKLE, apple gizmos, bed, office cat, sleeping, dyi projects, chips, getting snowed in, accessories, ppl who aren't lame.
I don't like:
Ppl who are lame, cigarette smoke, guilt trips, family trips, acid trips, or being tripped.
I work in music, here's some background on what I do.
... my friend and I started a production/promotion company called Touch Entertainment in 2001. We brought such acts to TN as Dieselboy, DJ Icey, Uberzone, DJ Rap, Micro, Freaky Flow, Flipside, AK1200, Dara, George Acosta, Kimball Collins, D:Fuse, Christopher Lawrence, DJ Colette, Richard Humpty Vission, David Garcia, Baby Anne, MC J Messinian, Faust & Shortee, The Crystal Method, Jen Lasher, Reid Speed, Autobots, Stanton Warriors, etc... A crazy discovery for me that I like to throw parties that make ppl go wow.
I moved to London in 04, returning only when my Visa would no longer allow me to work there anymore. I still consider it my second home and I feel I always will. I met many kind, extremely mental people there. (what can I say, ppl dont interest me unless they're a bit odd) They took me in like a stray southern belle and made me their own. I love them for it.
I came back to the states in the Summer of 05. I really hated it at first. Was chomping at the bit to figure a way back to Europe (mainly Brighton), but came to the realization pretty quickly that it was a great lifestyle I live here in the states... one of which could only be afforded by the very wealthy in London (and wealthy I am not).
Throughout those next few months I was helping put together things at Blue Cats and Fiction once again. Until eventually I returned there full time. Now I handle marketing and much of the booking for The Valarium, working with bands as well as djs. I like it :)
Life's good these days.

My Interests

I heart synths.

If I could make time to dress myself an elaborate costume everyday, I probably would.

I'd like to meet:

My grandmother when she was my age. She's one of the coolest people I've ever known...

Music:

unkle, unkle, and unkle...

MUSIC IS MY LIFE. I like to surround myself in Breakbeat Royalty. It ensures I get the right amount of proper dance hits in my diet. I love all types of music, but breakbeat and electro seem to play a common theme in much of the artists I like. Plump DJs, Adam Freeland, Evil 9, DJ Icey, Stanton Warriors, Hyper, DJ Shadow, Cut Chemist&Numark, the Chemical Brothers, BLIM, Meat Katie, Fischerspooner, The Crystal Method, Infusion, Lady Sovereign, Tool, Kraftwerk, Shiny Toy Guns, Young Love, Kill Hannah, The Killers, LCD Soundsystem, Soulwax, Too Many DJs, Soul of Man(~justin's my fav breakbeat glamour model!), Soundtribe Sector9, Scissor sisters, Dylan Rhymes, Ali B, Mylo, Muse, Flyleaf, Motorcycle, Telefon Tel Aviv, Lily Allen, The Bravery, Octopus Project, Joe Ransom, The Perishers, Bookashade, Elton John, Miss Kittin, Vertigo, Timbaland, DJ Touche, Peaches, Krafty Kuts, Justin Timberlake, Goldfrapp, Massive Attack, Velvet Revolver, Deekline&Wizard, Benni Benassi, Magnet, Royksopp, The Postal Service, Classic Case ,Brazilian Girls, The Freestylers, The Scratch Perverts~~DMC Champs~ like my mate DJ Blakey, The Streets. Ian Brown, Forme, Charlotte Martin, Adoration, Jen Lasher, Buckethead, That One Guy, Boyz Noize, Queen Adrena, Verona, Gnarls Barkley... I always forget many of them, so I'll just keep adding as time goes on. My regional djs always makin booties shake!: Slink, Funky James, etc...They'll never let you down! I also love Bluegrass, especially my brother's stuff~ Jed Patterson Band. I grew up on everything: Run DMC, Rob Bass, Madonna, Bell Biv Devoe, Violent Femmes, Grateful Dead, Bob Marley, Allison Krauss, Fiona Apple, Mazzy Star, Sarah McClaughlin, Hole, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, Letters to Cleo, Smashing Pumpkins, Fugees, Portishead, Nirvana, Depeche Mode, Sneaker Pimps, Sublime, G Love, and of course the Beastie Boys, Daft Punk, Prodigy, Michael Jackson, Duran Duran, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and yes, even a little Skynyrd.........I'm all over the place with my music choices. I'm always down to support my hometown guys: Copper and 10 Years . They were both kind enough to rock out my private going away party and show me some love before I moved to England. Check them out! A favorite of mine is my friend Ben's music-- check out the contact page on the Ben Lost website to download the Tough Love tracks. This is some crazy rock electro type stuff that he dubbed "pork rock". I love it. His lyrics are insane...

Did I mention UNKLE?:

Movies:

I honestly don't have that many movies I truly love...Donnie Darko, Party Monster, Napoleon Dynamite, Team America, American Beauty, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Requiem for a Dream, Office Space...

Television:

I don't really care whats on TV. I just like to have something to aimlessly stare at when I'm eating. But I would have to say Little Britain absolutely rockS!!! Vicky is my fav! "Likenobutyeahbutnobutyealikeyeabutnobutbut,likeno...totally " (chav's rock). These days I watch History channel and crime shows when that devil box is switched on. All except for late night episodes of star trek in its early yrs. I like that, mainly for the cheesy acting and the cool outfits.

Books:

Do they have pictures in them???

Heroes:

My mom and dad....hell my whole family for that matter........and well, Bill Hicks... he was genius.
