Indianapolis Indiana-born drummer Michael Taylor began playing drums at the age of 3. Although not a “classically studied” musician he was fortunate enough to have grown up in a musical family of drummers, and was exposed to a wide array of music and styles. “I learned how to play and develop my sense of musicality mostly by listening, watching, and emulating my favorite drummers”, as well as a few lessons. Some of those most influential include Billy Cobham, Tony Williams, Neil Peart, Stewart Copeland, Elvin Jones, Jeff Porcaro, etc. During his off-and-on college career Michael played in various big bands and small jazz combos, as well as freelancing and recording with several musicians and bands in whatever local he happened to reside at the time. Since April ’03 he’s been actively gigging and doing session work in Los Angeles, and is currently available for professional opportunities (gigs, sessions, touring, & instruction).
