However 2007 is the year that the lads have decided to launch their own record label, SOM MUSIC. Representative of their own unique sound, the label is looking like ’one to watch’. Futurebound
From the very outset of dance culture, and right up to the present day, Brendan Collins, AKA DJ / Producer Futurebound, has steadily developed an almost unsurpassable reputation for tearing up dancefloors on a worldwide scale.
Whether hes destroying venues such as Fabric (London), Womb (Tokyo), or in the studio, you know what youre getting with the sounds of Futurebound.
Born and bred in Liverpool, the cultural and musical epicentre of the North of England, Futurebounds route to the top of his profession reads like a concise history of dance music. After the first illegal raves he attended in 1989, Futurebound went onto pursue his passion for dance music, with DJs such as Fabio, Grooverider, Mickey Finn & Top Buzz serving as early influences.
From this, Futurebound secured a home town residency in 1991, warming up for the likes of Carl Cox, Grooverider and Sasha, his first real break into DJing. Steadily the emerging influence of breakbeats grew on Futurebound, leading him to book names such as LTJ Bukem, Goldie, Ray Keith and 4 Hero for his own parties in the early nineties, and later lead him to start the notorious X events in 1999, some of which still rank as some of most important parties in Liverpools clubbing history.
His skills didnt just stop with DJing and promotion either. Since 1993 Futurebound has been stamping his distinctive, rolling, peak time sounds on vinyl, initially with local producers. Inevitably however, more high - profile production and remix collaborations followed with the likes of J Majik. Matrix, Digital & Adam-f. With his productions being released on imprints such as Infrared, Timeless, Moving Shadow, Metro and Frequency, and receiving heavy support over the years from the scenes hierarchy, the time seemed right for Futurebound to expand his repertoire once again, by infusing his reputation on an entire imprint.
Ink
An architect of sound first visualizes then realises, making something out of nothing, making sure that not only the object itself shines but also the space around it. The sound is moulding, shaping and morphing at the hands of Dj Ink...
Tribal/ Bboy/ Mechanical/Organic/Abstract/Groove
Ink built architecture recordings as an outlet for his musical output-solely to get good music on the shelves, fast fwd to today and the label is held in massive regard by peers, new producers and veterans alike, but in order to really get the essence we need to go back, way back
Its 1990 and a young Dj Ink has solidified his love for the culture known as hip hop- as the years move on so does UK street music, there are new genre’s forming and Ink begins to hear what is familiar to him, but there is a new twist-it is the UK passing by the USA, with a huge dose of African and Jamaican influence , and of course this is music to a budding Dj Ink’s ears, he naturally becomes involved and it doesn’t take too long before he begins to make his mark..
First begins the Pirate Radio Circuit, working hard at his craft, allowing the followers to get familiar with the roll, steadlily bookings began to build up and soon it would be time for Ink to become associated with three names that changed the landscape of British electronic music-and they were Basement Records, and slightly later Metalheadz and Renegade Hardware
If your familiar with drum n bass/jungle you’ll know instantly the weight these labels carry, and if you are not by just scratching the surface you’ll become aware of the work they have done, Hardware, and Metalheadz are two commitments Dj Ink has upheld to this day, through thick and thin, engraved in the wall of time...
Essential work includes “The 50th (Blueprint)”on Basement Records, ‘Feel da heat’ taken from the LP ‘Can u draw sound?’ on Architecture Recordings, ‘Kaos Theory Ep’ on Renegade Hardware, ‘Shine’ on Metalheadz, and the now infamous posse cut ‘Instinct’ Also on Architecture, this is just a small fraction by Ink that has made waves...
Horsemen, Unifying the four corners... In order to find strength in numbers and to truly be able to judge how far the sound has travelled you can look to the international crew of beat-makers alligned under the Horsemen banner. Originally 4 UK london artists Dj Ink, Loxy, Keaton+Dylan, and then expanded to include Countries such as Canada, Brazil,The USA and Puerto Rico, Ink worked with Renegade Hardware to Realize two Lp’s from the Horsemen Camp and orchestrated various other Projects for Architecture.
Simon Bassline Smith
Being a major player in the drum ‘n’ bass movement is one thing, but continuing to push boundaries through an ever-changing sonic versatility is quite another. In a career spanning almost two decades, Simon Bassline Smith has been at the forefront of it all, setting new standards with his Technique Recordings label and rinsing dancefloors with ruthless, stealth-like precision. Together with razor-sharp duo Drumsound, the group have slam-dunked drum ‘n’ bass into the 21st century releasing some of the genre’s most pivotal club killers, whilst maintaining a DJ cred second-to-none.
Wind it back to the beginning and Simon Smith (who later adopted the middle name of ‘Bassline’ after destroying his fair share of speakers) fell in love with music as a 16 year old, visiting record stores every Saturday to buy up big on electro, jazz, funk, soul and house records. The Derby-born youngster would also spend his weekends travelling up and down the country with mates to attend ‘all dayer parties’ where they’d put their breakdancing skills on full display. It was during one of these ritualistic missions that Bassline got his Djing big-break, by getting the chance to take command of the dex at Nottingham’s Rock City club.
As the rave scene grew throughout the 90s, Smith was right there at the forefront, winning over crowds and promoters alike with his ball-tearing brand of hardcore and jungle. As his reputation swelled, he began being booked by some of the UK’s biggest dance organisations including Perception, Mythology, Raindance, Dance ’91 and World Dance & AWOL to play slots alongside fellow contemporary jungle stars Grooverider, Fabio, Mikey Finn & Jack Frost.
In 1991 Bassline Smith launched his own record label Absolute 2 – one of the early pioneering d’n’b imprints. So astute was the man’s ear for a quality tune, that the label birthed future stars Doc Scott, Nookie, Ray Keith and Danny C (Twisted Anger/Primary Motive), releasing Doc’s seminal ‘Surgery EP’, Nookie’s ‘Give a Little Love EP’ and Keith’s controversial ‘News at Ten’.
In 1998 Smith’s career took a massive turn skywards, when he met the Drumsound duo of Andy and Benn G. The trio’s chemistry was instantaneous, with the decision being made to launch a combined imprint in which to showcase their shared musical vision – it was then that Technique Recordings was born.
Since its inception the label has gone from strength to strength, with Bassline and Drumsound utilizing their knowledge and enthusiasm to build an imprint of global proportions. Over the past 10 years the label has released over 40 high quality dancefloor killers and sold 150,000 units globally from some of the world’s most respected d’n’b artists including Roni Size, DJ Fresh, MC Tali, DJ Friction, Teebee and many others. The label is also involved in nurturing the talents of up and coming artists of the calibre of Phetsta, Skyver & D Jon, Youngman, Terravita.
Amongst all of this, it’s been Bassline’s stunning production work that’s shined the brightest. Having first ventured into the studio in the early 90s to knock out a couple of early d’n’b anthems ‘Music and Life EP’, ‘Palomino’ and ‘Midnight’, the Brit’s career has continued to build with each new year. Together with the Drumsound lads, Bassline has dropped two critically acclaimed LPs ‘Nature of the Beast’ and last year’s ‘Street Technique’ that ripped up the drum ‘n’ bass rulebook with contributions from Roni Size, DJ Friction, J-Magik & Wickaman, DJ Fresh and many others.
When it comes to dishing up a red-hot anthem, the trio have plenty of experience under their belt too. In 2004, they dropped the all-time classic ‘Odyssey’, with the track reaching no.1 in the UK dance charts and Mixmag judged it the ‘10th biggest all-round dance anthem’ for that year. No surprise Grooverider snapped it up for his legendary Prototype label. Recently, their form has shown no sign of subsiding, with a blazing ‘Street Technique’ re-rub of their ‘Skumbag/Booty Call’ bombs going straight into the drum ‘n’ bass charts at no.4. Their ‘Cold Turkey/Stories of the Future’ cuts are also shining brightly, receiving big support from Hype, Roni Size, Grooverider and Zane Lowe & Annie Mac on Radio 1.
Along with a string of club bangers on Technique, Bassline remains one of the most versatile men in the d’n’b game, with releases on virtually every major label in the genre including Protoype, Full Cycle, BreakBeat Koas, V Recordings, Good Looking, Creative Source and Trouble on Viny /Flex.
As a DJ, Smith is prolific as ever, spinning the Technique sound over virtually every continent, including appearances in America, Canada, Australia, France, Italy, Germany, Russia, Iceland, Spain, Holland, Sweden, Ireland, Czech Republic, Brazil, Poland, Switzerland, Uruguay, Norway, Italy as well representing for some of the biggest UK organisations such as Slammin Vinyl, Accelerated Culture, One Nation, Detonate, Movement – the list goes on.
Currently Smith is hard at work playing out every weekend in the UK and abroad, whilst spending his weekdays locked away in the studio with Drumsound focussing on producing tracks for their next album out in 2008.
With so much going on, it’s almost unbelievable to think Simon has time to run his famed Interface club night in Derby, yet true to form, the multi-talented man throws some of the finest d’n’b shindigs in the country. With so many strings to his bow, there’s little doubt this pioneer will continue to set the standard for years to come.
Drumsound
info coming soon...
Axiom
Axiom stepped into the Drum and Bass scene in 2005, when he met Optiv (C4C) at a party and was invited for a collaboration, the result was the tune "nightfalls" which was released on Optiv’s redlight recordings. Shortly after that, the collaboration with Optiv and Chris.Su created the amazing "soulcube" which received support from all the major players in the scene and began opening eyes worldwide.
Axiom’s sound, derived from ambient and experimental electronic music, fuses together to create an equally disturbing and effective dance floor tune and is also right at home on your music player, this has helped enable Axiom to release tunes on the number 1 record labels in Drum and Bass today including the huge Renegade Hardware imprint, and branching from every corner of the earth with releases on New Zealand labels Cyanide Recordings and State Of Mind Music, Shadow Law & Hostile Recordings - USA, DSCI4 and Relight Recordings – UK and Sydrome and Citrus imprint.
Axiom live shows consist of a rolling selection of fresh exciting Drum and Bass, predominately on the neurofunk and tech tip, with fast moving mixing and cuts, he’s been in demand with shows every weekend and internet mixes getting downloaded in their thousands, Axiom is hot property.
Sigma
Bursting onto the scene in 2007 with an array of high profile releases on labels such as Bingo Beats, Charge, Viper and Ruffige Recordings, Sigma is poised to make even more noise in 2008. Their smash hit All Blue, holds the title of being the most-downloaded track of all time on Drum and Bass Arena, as does their podcast mix, which has received over 100,000 downloads to-date.
Sigma’s acclaimed live sets have seen them move up the ranks of the dj circuit in a relatively short space of time, playing at some of the most prominent events across Europe and the UK , including one of the largest drum and bass parties in the world in Russia, host to over 40,000 attendees. Most recently, Sigma smashed it on a 10-day tour of Australia with the legendary DJ Hype. One half of Sigma is an ex-DMC turntablist champion, bringing an added flavour to their sets, often performed on three or four decks, which are bursting with the freshest dubplates.
2008 looks bright for Sigma, as they continue to be hard at work in the studio, recently completing a remix of Roni Size’s classic Music Box, as well as loads of fresh Sigma material. The boys continue to generate interest among drum and bass community, receiving profiles and coverage on Drum and Bass Arena, and publications such as Mixmag, ATM, Knowledge and DJ Mag. A recent nomination for best breakthrough dj at the Drum and Bass Awards and a sponsorship with Money Clothing (www.moneyclothing.com) have helped to ensure that the Sigma star continues to rise.
Shockone
Coming from a traditionally trained musical background Shockone bring a unique sound to the drum and bass music scene. Discovering the sound through artists like Bad Company, Konflict and Ed Rush & Optical, it wasn’t long before Karl Thomas and Jay Burns, at the time playing in a metal band with members of Pendulum, were experimenting in the electronic music.
It was when ShockOne’s tune ‘Silverscreen’ dropped at a pendulum return show that things started to really move. Having torn the roof off it wasn’t long before Dj Friction had picked it up for his own imprint Shogun audio, backed up with Dropping science this was a debut release that made the world take notice, gaining support from Friction, Andy C and Hype to name a few. Followed by this release was ‘It’s On’ which featured the musical side of the Duo utilizing live guitars resulting in an energetic party anthem that proved Shockone were more than reeces and amens
ShockOne’s latest and arguably most successful offering is Let Me Go out on New York based label Incite recordings. The electro funked out psychedelic love journey has proven to be a massive crowd favourite causing mass hysteria on dance floors all over the world. Even more anticipated is the forthcoming release of the vocal VIP bringing house vocals back into drum and bass. On the DJ front Shockones sets have built a reputation for consistently causing uncontrollable body movement, flailing limbs and general frenzied behaviour among crowds. Having played along side the likes of Andy C, Dj Fresh, Pendulum, Dj Friction to name a few, Shockone has proven to be a force to be reckoned with, not only in the studio, but also on stage, always retaining a strong musical element in sets while still keeping the energy at maximum level.
2007 is set to be a colossal year for ShockOne with forthcoming releases on Frequency recordings, Viper recordings and a full-length album in the works.
Crossfire
Crossfire started producing music at age of 17. And after a couple of years of complete focus, he finally got some recognition from the infamous Dj Trace (DSCI4).
Trace signed his track Hydra (on Spy Technologies LP) for his label, DSCI4. The track Hydra crawled into the playlists of Ed Rush & Optical, Dkay, Black Sun Empire, Paul B, and many others
Quickly a release on Ryme Tymes 1210 label followed, with the tunes Hideout & Swordfight (1210 006).
Soon thereafter Trace decided to give Crossfire his own 12 on Dsci4, Counterforce & Firebolt (DSCI4 008), the tune Counterforce also got played out a lot by the ones like: Dj Bailey, Loxy, Ink, Klute, Paul B etc
Bookings came in and the name Crossfire started to ring a bell in the mind of a lot of the tech step lovers.
He got booked in Swizz, Austria, Germany, Holland, France, Italy, UK, Czech, Slovakia, Poland, Estonia, Portugal, ...
Crossfire wanted to push the limits a little further, so, he decided to start his own imprint: Crossfire Recordings.
Masheen
Masheen first got into music at an early age, not content with just listening to it, he then decided to start DJ’in. But not long after decided this was still not enough and started producing.
Armed with just an Akai Sampler and an Atari he quickly got to grips on how to construct tunes.
Just 2 years on he started to get interest from a couple of labels which lead to his first release with fellow producer Evil-C on 24 Karat under his old name DJ ST.
Shortly after this release they met DJ Swan-e and had a release on his label Collusion Records under the alias Parallel Minds.
Masheen is also the A&R man for DSCI4 Records. DJ Trace handed him the position due to him starting a new Techno label. Anyone wanting to send demos to DSCI4 must now send them though a new AIM screen name DSCI4 DEMOS
Now after a few releases Masheen has ventured into starting his own label with Sleeper Cell, called Contaminated Recordings. Their aim is to push DnB further and to head hunt new and established artists for the label.
Kano
2008/ Kano is working hard in the studio focusing more on production, something he feels has been left on the back burner for the last couple of years. Before he was concentrating solely on the label, bringing through new artists and helping them to perfect their sound and understand the scene. Since meeting the whizzkid Masheen, Kano’s passion for producing has been revived again. Masheens forward thinking music was the ideal of where Sinuous was looking to take themselves and others on a journey into the next step of drum n bass.
Together Masheen & Kano have built a nice array of dubs which have been getting caned in and out of clubs with numerous DJ support. They now have a release with "The Void" on the sampler for DSCI4’s Counter Surveillance album and also "Breaking Point" and "Paranoia" are on the forthcoming Counter Surveillance album. "Bluntside" on DEF:Ltd001 - DEF:Ltd003 collaborating online with the likes of upcoming Tenebra from St Petersburg with "Hidden voices" and "Cobolt".
Sinuous Records have released over 32 dynamic and timeless tunes, including 4 heavyweight E.P’s, with artists such as Corrupt Souls, SPL, Raiden, Limewax and Sunchase have all featured on the label. Sinuous feels that they are mereley scratching at the surface. Label boss Kano has the attitude and mentality of producing quality over quantity, whether he is producing a tune or signing a new artist, that is the image most associated with Sinuous. They have rightfully earned the respect within the D&B industry as one of the leading producers of high quality music. Now a firmly established label, it seems the key to Sinuous’s success has been raw talent!
Purple Unit
Resident of Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine Andray Zapotochnyy aka Purple Unit was sucked into quickly rising electronic music in early 1999. He took classical violin classes earlier but then found electronic music a lot more expressive. He started with techno and breakbeat and already used own vocals in his early works.
Three years later another local talent Sunchase introduces Purple Unit to drum&bass music. Andray climbs onto local scene with the support of St.Petersburg CD-label Respect, signing his first d’n’b trials.
World debut of Purple Unit was initiated by Russian producer Paul B and his newborn label STEP2ZERO. Impressed by his tune “Dream Time” he puts it on release schedule for year 2004.
Purple Unit’s first 12-inch gives a big impulse to his career. Bookings turn him into one of Ukraine most booked DJ’s. His tracks gain attention of other known Dj’s and producers: Pendulum, Desimal, Submerged, Pyro, Chris.SU, Task Horizon, Wildchild, Temper D. A track called “Air Circus” becomes his most played release thanks to rolling beats and juicy production. Breakbeat tune called “Getting Closer” were used by El Hornet (Pendulum) in his breaks sets.
Andray isn’t going to stop. “Dream Time LP” launching parties take place in Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, Slovakia, Belarus.
At the moment he lives in Czech Republic, continue his music career and spending much time on learning czech :)

Mc Amdiez
"Oued lazer flow singer" This artist was first influenced by ragga music, he started as a singer in a hip- hop band (Syndic 1995-1997). He emerged owing to the way he built up his special style, using a positive attitude and explicit writing. Most of the time freestyling, this sound adventurer shares his impetuous vibe with the microphone, he already significantly experienced his "sound system" throughout Europe (Eastern Europe in 2000, in France with DJ Jud HSK 2000-2004). Though he’s spreading his wings at an international level (Mostar...), he doesn’t forget his roots and keeps implying himself in his original region’s life. His interest for culture (berber ; occitan : south of France dialect) allows him to give a special kind of sound to his style which is both roots and fresh, by inspiring himself with old songs, poetry and proverbs. For him, DJ’s and electronical music are also part of this "culture" since he considers it can be improved daily by any kinds of anonymous peole’s bringings in. But still we can’t call this an "ancient style" since everything in it is being invented and reinvented. Thus, through the sounds, he becomes the ambulant "microphone singer" , sharing a piece of what gave birth to his inspiration with his public.
