glitter-graphics.comWhat I'm *not* interested in is guys looking to hook up. Take notice: I have eleven kids; I'm homely as the north end of a southbound mule, regardless of the quality of the photos on my site (did you think I would post the cruddy ones); I'm not a girly-girl, and I like to play in the dirt. If you still think I'm interesting and still want to be my friend, why don't you request my husband first (he's my top friend, naturally) and we'll go from there. Sorry to be so blunt, but you wouldn't believe some of the messages I've gotten.

Music has always been a pretty important part of my life. I remember that I began piano lessons in about the second grade, and took lessons until around 6th grade, when we had moved to a different community and my new teacher was not managing to teach me anything at all anymore. I took guitar lessons the summer after second grade too, learning on a small, hand-made Spanish guitar that my teacher sold to my parents. In fourth grade I also began flute lessons, but I never got very far with those (although I did play in the junior high band for three years). Most of this learning revolved around classical or folk music.
When I was in the 9th grade, our church needed a pianist and I volunteered. I had just recently become a Christian, and it was important to me to be able to do something for the Lord. I practiced a lot in order to be able to play for the church without too many mistakes, and over time I improved quite a bit. I have worked with choirs and soloists as well. I guess I have about 25 years of church piano experience at this point, although I'm not currently playing for our church.
Most of the churches that we have belonged to have taken an extremely conservative view of music, shunning any contemporary style music and even teaching that contemporary Christian music is an oxymoron, that only older, more mellow music can honor the Lord. Over time, I have come to disagree with this point of view. In the words of the commentator on our local classical station, "ALL music was once new," and in studying musical history I can see that many of the musicians who are revered today as being properly conservative were innovators in their own generation, and shunned and criticized. I have heard various people criticize almost every type of music and singer - even very conservative singers who sing a song with a marching beat, for example, can be condemned by people who feel that this is too "sensual" or "worldly" - in the name of the Lord, and I've come to the conclusion that the criticism is ten times more harmful than the various types of music ever will be. (For those of you who may have had to endure listening to ME criticize other people's music in the past, please accept my sincere apologies.)
So what do I listen to now? Over the past couple of years, our family has been through some severe trials, and I have found myself rethinking all of my lifestyle choices in light of the Bible's actual teachings. I found that the music that I used to listen to just did not minister to me the way that many contemporary Christian songs could. So I began listening to a local contemporary Christian station with some excellent programming, and felt enveloped in the love and mercy of God as I listened to selections by Casting Crowns, Third Day, MercyMe, Newsboys, Newsong, and dozens of other groups and artists that God has used. There was tremendous strength and power in these songs, and I felt spiritually refreshed and physically recharged in the wake of the havoc that had been wreaked in our family.
WJIE ROCKS! :-)
On long road trips when I cannot access WJIE or KLOVE on my dial, I usually search for a classic rock station, which keeps me awake quite nicely when accompanied by Dr. Pepper :-) But amazingly, it's usually possible to find a good contemporary Christian station nearly everywhere now. Thank you, Jesus!!

glitter-graphics.comI have a horribly short attention span and too much to do to watch movies very much. HOWEVER, thanks to a certain young man whose name will not be mentioned, I have watched more movies in the past 9 months or so than I had in the previous 25 years put together. Some I've enjoyed recently have included the LOTR trilogy, Pirates of the Caribbean, White Chicks, Napoleon Dynamite, Forrest Gump, and then the perennial favorites Ever After and The Princess Bride. Oh, yeah, and I like The Kid ... and just about anything with Johnny Depp in it, I'll watch at least once ... I guess I like most chick flicks, too, but don't like the kissing (or worse) scenes. I like watching the special features on the extended DVD's even more than watching the movies sometimes ... interviews with actors, explanations of special effects and that sort of thing. I really don't like blood and guts an awful lot. If I want to see that, I'll check out a hockey game. ..

I'll keep your secrets
I'll hold your ground
And when the darkness starts to fall
I'll be around
there waiting
When dreams are fading
And friends are distant and few
Know at that moment I'll be there with you
I'll be around
When there's no reason left to carry on
And every dream you've ever had is gone
And the dark is deep and black without a sound
And every star has been dragged to the ground
Know at that moment I will be around
