FUR FREE UK!
FUR FREE UK IS A GROUP FOR ANYONE WHO IS AGAINST THE FUR INDUSTRY AND THE SELLING OF FUR ITEMS IN THE UK. A COUNTRY THAT HAS SO FAR BANNED THE PRODUCTION OF FUR (as of 1st January 2003) BUT NOT YET THE SELLING OF FUR.
WE ARE CALLING FOR THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT TO CONTINUE THEIR OPPOSITION TO THE MURDER OF ANIMALS FOR THEIR FUR AND SO TO MAKE IT ILLEGAL FOR SHOPS WITHIN THE UNITED KINGDOM TO SELL REAL ANIMAL FUR.
fUR FACTS:
"Neither fur nor fur trim is a byproduct of the meat industry. Rabbit fur is often falsely identified as a byproduct of meat production. The truth is, few rabbit skins are obtained from slaughterhouses, which more often dispose of the undesirable pelts of rabbits bred to make meat. Fur comes from animals who are factory-farmed or trapped purely for fashion."
"It takes more than 60 times as much energy to produce a fur coat from ranch-raised animals than it does to produce a fake fur."
"Ranch-raised foxes are kept in cages only 2.5 feet square (minks in cages 1-foot-by-3-feet), with up to four animals per cage."
"According to a study by Ford Motor Company engineer Gregory H. Smith, it takes almost three times as much energy to make a coat from trapped animals' pelts—and 40 times as much from ranch-raised furs—than it does to make a fake fur coat."
"Each year the fur industry kills over 50 million animals for fashion, not including rabbits (no reliable data on rabbits killed worldwide for fur is available)."
"Number of Animals to Make a Fur Coat: 12-15 lynx 10-15 wolves or coyotes 15-20 foxes 60-80 minks 27-30 racoons 10-12 beavers 60-100 squirrels"
"Mink fur is the backbone of the fur industry, and fox fur is quite significant in Scandinavia where 80 percent of the world’s fox farms are based."
"A report looking at Chinese fur farms showed that a significant number of animals remain fully conscious during the process of removing the fur - skinning." - a report on the Chinese fur industry. Care for the Wild et al. 2005
